Role
Support the design and delivery of Capital Markets’ ESG Risk function in relation to products, customers and portfolios. The role provides a high performing individual with the opportunity to: inform strategy, develop risk and control frameworks, assess and ensure conformance to regulation and public commitments, engage directly with business leaders and drive thought leadership on environmental and social issues that impact Capital Markets businesses. This will be realized through the following responsibilities:
Developing and managing projects, processes and deliverables associated with environmental and social risks. This could include risk identification and mapping, customer due diligence methodologies, customer and portfolio monitoring, and the development of reporting in support of business needs and Enterprise expectations.
Assessing new or changing ESG regulations and mapping to controls (existing or to net new).
Methodically solving problems across a continuum that ranges from simple day-to-day issues to highly complex business, technical or regulatory issues in relation to ESG risks and opportunities (e.g. Climate Transition Action Plans).
Building positive relationships within Global Markets, Investment &Corporate Banking and across Corporate Support Areas in order to garner buy-in and support. Leveraging relationships to advise and partner to enable execution of the role.
Alongside business partners, developing content and participating in client conversations to understand risk management activities for higher risk entities.
Supporting risk program management and implementation internationally.
Inventorying and improving existing controls while developing and implementing new controls.
Developing business communications that clearly and appropriately convey the target message and which garner buy-in and acceptance.
Working cross-functionally to effectively coordinate and lead meetings involving a wide and complex stakeholder group on various aspects of integration activities:
Develop new and updated governance documentation i.e., operating procedures
Develop new or enhance existing processes and controls (many outside of the direct line of accountability of ESG Risk)
Facilitate continued compliance with various Federal and regulatory requirements
Review and organize documentation
Data management and manipulation: Defining, identifying and extracting, loading, and transforming data from multiple sources for risk management, reporting and ad-hoc analyses under tight timelines
Ongoing self-study on emerging ESG trends, regulations, industry issues and best practices that have the potential to impact strategy and risk management.
This role will serve as the delegate to the Director, ESG Risk and will have a significant number of opportunities to engage with senior leaders both within Capital Markets as well as in various functions throughout the Bank (ERPM, CSO, CCCM, etc.).
** Note: this role is within the Capital Markets business, in the Office of the Chief Operating Officer. The business operates at a quick pace with very high-quality outputs and expectations.

Knowledge
Undergraduate degree, Masters preferred.
7-10+ years work experience in the Sustainability field.
Advanced knowledge of environment, social and governance risks associated with Financial Institutions and the global ESG regulatory landscape.
Advanced knowledge of environment, social and governance regulations, guidance, standards & frameworks, including climate.
Intermediate knowledge of Capital Markets (Global Markets, I&CB, and OCOO, financial services, relevant products, systems, services.
Knowledge of the various risks and controls associated with Capital Markets’ business activities.
Understanding of Regulatory environment in Financial Services.
Intermediate to advanced Office Suite proficiency (including Excel and Visio).
Intermediate experience in data, data analysis, and related infrastructure.
Intermediate knowledge of infrastructure and engineering design DevOps, system security measures, database management, cloud development, and web platforms.
Salary range for this role located in Toronto is 100,000.00k-120.000.00k CAD.
Salary:
$68,000.00 - $126,000.00Pay Type:

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
