Key Responsibilities
Lead, grow and manage a diverse team of data engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous growth. Forge strong collaborations with product, architecture, and data science and contribute to the overall leadership within the Corporate Data Team. Develop and execute a corporate data engineering roadmap, closely tied to product objectives and accepted engineering principles. Build a comprehensive portfolio of data products, services, and related assets focused on unifying our customer data across various business units into a proprietary identity graph. Ensure adherence to data governance, quality, and security standards, while facilitating compliance with data privacy regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and state privacy regulations. Oversee the design and implementation of scalable and robust data architectures aligned to deliver business outcomes and objectives. Establish agile development processes and monitor key performance indicators to ensure department goals are met. Foster strong partnerships with technology vendors. Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in data engineering, evaluating and recommending suitable technologies and tools.Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred. 8-10 years of experience in engineering leadership, with a focus on data engineering and development in media companies or high-growth companies with a focus on consumer products. Strong expertise in SQL, relational databases, data warehousing, and real-time data processing. Proven capability to scale and manage engineering teams while enhancing team productivity and code quality. Experience with cloud technologies (preferably Google Cloud Platform) and data platforms like Databricks and Snowflake. Familiarity with media, advertising, and marketing technology stacks, including CDPs, DMPs, and CMPs. Solid coding proficiency in Python, Scala, or similar languages, and ability to resolve technical challenges. In-depth knowledge of data analysis, governance, privacy regulations, and quality frameworks. Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and interpersonal skills.
In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York City. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York City, is $315,000 to $350,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York City. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York City, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
