The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team, within the Global Risk and Compliance organization and led by the Chief Risk Officer, establishes and maintains the Company’s overall risk management and governance framework. The team is also ensures that risk management activities are conducted in a manner compliant with regulatory requirements and expectations. The team aggregates and reports on key risk management and oversight activities to the relevant management and Board risk committees.

The Vice President, Enterprise Change and Project Governance is a new leadership role focused on managing the risks associated with Enterprise Change and Projects across American Express globally.

The incumbent will be responsible for owning and executing on the overall risk management and governance framework for Change and Project Governance at the Company. The incumbent will have significant exposure to senior leadership across risk and business teams. We are seeking an experienced leader to be a part of this exciting journey.

Essential Job Functions:

Design and implement the Change and Project Governance risk governance framework, including the development of a specialized risk team, risk policy, and risk capabilities to identify, measure, manage, monitor, control, and report risks related to Change and Project Governance. Build a new team of Change and Project risk professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, imagination, and continuous learning. Attract, lead, and nurture colleagues towards a fun-filled and high energy workplace. Lead the development of Change and Project inventory through a data-driven and sustainable process. Leverage the Change and Project Governance risk governance frameworks to conduct risk assessments at an aggregate and granular level, as necessary, for Changes and Projects, across the Change and Project lifecycle. Identify risks presented by Enterprise Change and Projects, oversee controls in line with American Express’s risk and control framework. Establish guidance and requirements for minimum recommended controls. Lead the design and development of Board and management reporting on key risk metrics (Key Control Indicators, Key Risk Indicators and Key Performance Indicators) towards early identification of key Change and Project risks. Establish monitoring and testing processes to continuously evaluate risks. Collaborate with senior leadership, across Legal, Technology and Business Unit leaders to define and report on the organization’s risk appetite for Change and Project Governance and monitor adherence to established thresholds. Share periodic updates with regulators. Leverage external perspectives, including external events, relevant laws, regulations, and guidance to refine and enhance the Change and Project risk management program. Collaborate with Legal, and other key partners, to develop and implement enterprise-wide training modules around Change and Project risks.

 Qualifications:

Minimum of ten years of experience in risk management, across lines of defense, within the banking/financial services industry including policy & procedure development, risk appetite, risk control self-assessment and testing, and issue management. Multiple years of experience in the development and implementation of risk governance frameworks. Strong preference for proven expertise in the area Enterprise Change and Project Governance at large banks. Experience in successfully developing and implementing Change and Project risk management framework and strategies at large banks. Experience in leveraging data, analytics to develop inventories, review metadata, assess risk and identify issues. Knowledgeable of relevant laws and regulations applicable to banking and financial services. Ability to bring the right balance of big picture thinking and intellectual curiosity. Applies a learning mindset to courageously and patiently evaluate multiple perspectives to reach a conclusion. Experienced leader with a track record of effectively building, nurturing, and managing risk management teams. Ability to collaboratively deliver outcomes and results in a volatile, unstructured, challenging, and ambiguous environment. Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence cross-functional teams and demonstrate the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at the executive level.

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
