Join Team Amex and let's lead the way together. **Department Overview:** Frontier Machine Learning & Customer Insights team sits within the Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) division as part of the AI Labs department within American Express. The AI Labs team uses the latest AI, ML, and GenAI techniques to support new and streamlined use cases to improve the customer experience and support Amex colleagues in automating day to day tasks. AI Labs is led from New York while working with other teams internationally. **Job Responsibilities:** + Lead and drive advanced machine learning research in emerging areas such as causal modeling, reinforcement learning, and other action-based techniques, focusing on practical applications with significant business impact. + Develop and refine "Size of Wallet" modeling for both consumer and commercial portfolio, delivering actionable insights that inform decision-making across the organization. + Establish, grow, and maintain high-impact research partnerships with top academic institutions and industry leaders, ensuring access to the latest research and fostering innovation. + Lead high-caliber machine learning research team in the application of research insights, translating theoretical advances into practical, scalable solutions that drive the business forward. + Present and communicate research findings to senior leadership, influencing enterprise-level decision-making and strategic direction. **Required Skills and Qualification:** + 10 years of experience in quantitative research and decision-making within the consumer finance sector, with a proven ability to deliver impactful research-driven solutions. + 5 years of machine learning research experience, including hands-on work with advanced techniques such as reinforcement learning, causal inference, and action-based modeling. + 3 years of experience managing research partnerships with both academic institutions and industry, demonstrating success in collaborative, large-scale research initiatives. + Exceptional collaboration and influencing skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across departments, teams, and levels of leadership. + Proven ability to set and execute a forward-looking research agenda, with a focus on external learning and defining measurable success metrics for research outcomes. **Qualifications** Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $275,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
