Summary

The Vice President of Rehabilitation Services provides executive leadership for a defined market within the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation System. Within the Munson system, this position will hold the title of Service Line Executive Director. This role will serve as the primary liaison to the executive teams at Mary Free Bed, and to

the community and partners within the Munson market and responsible to organize and deliver corporate communications across the market. The Vice President will be the lead reporting member of Mary Free Bed @ Munson board meetings, and will have the responsibility of gathering, organizing, and presenting key performance indicators.

The Vice President of Rehabilitation Services for MFB at Munson is responsible for all aspects of patient care for areas of responsibility, including the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, Outpatient Therapy Programs, Acute Care Therapy, and services provided through contractual relationships. Additional services may be added within the MFB at Munson Joint Operating Agreement.

The Vice President for Rehabilitation Services is expected to achieve and maintain an effective and harmonious multidisciplinary team of professionals through collaboration, leadership, and management best practices. This leader participates in leadership activities and leadership development activities within Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and the MFB partner and follows the relationship as outlined in the joint operating agreement or professional services agreement between these organizations.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Program and Services Operational Leadership –Direct activities in assigned programs and service lines to assure high value services (as measured by patient outcomes, operational costs, and identified key performance indicators)

o Ultimate accountability for the performance, growth, care and operations, at Mary Free Bed at Munson Medical Center.

o Provides leadership for organizational planning, decision-making and policy formation to fulfill the mission, vision and values of the organization.

o Oversees development of strategic plans for the organization, in coordination with the Mary Free Bed @ Munson Advisory Board.

o Oversees development of short-term plans and budgets that provide financial, physical, human resources, information and support services required for the implementation of policies and plans.

o Guides the implementation of strategic, financial and operational plans by organizational leaders ensuring effective utilization of human, financial and physical resources.

o Collaborates with the medical director and medical staff members to ensure that safe, effective care is provided. Advocates for the needs of persons served by the organization.

o Acts as a liaison with the medical director, medical staff, chiefs, vice presidents and other organizational leaders in day-to-day management of the organization.

o Ensures that the organization maintains the physical environment and equipment in safe, accessible condition.

o Ensures substantial compliance with the organization’s code of ethical behavior and all applicable laws and regulations. Responds to recommendations from planning, regulatory and inspecting agencies.

o Maintain and pursue targeted accreditation and certifications of programs under their leadership

o Provide leadership related to quality improvement, ensuring appropriate standards of care for services are aligned with the hospital and met for patients in each program or service, in accordance with hospital goals, policies, and procedures; this includes clinical standards of care, monitoring and mentoring of staff, and compliance with accreditation agencies (TJC, CMS Compliance, CARF, and CHAP, etc.)

o Assure staff competencies to perform job responsibilities is assessed and demonstrated, and maintained according to regulatory and accreditation requirements

o Identify, report, and manage in a timely fashion all key performance indicators (KPI) relative to the operations of assigned programs and services

o Prepare and monitor operating, personnel, and capital budgets for identified service lines

o Manage operational margins to meet identified targets

o Participate in financial forecasting for new service line development

o Monitor and assure achievement of productivity targets

o Provide program leadership related to selection, hiring, orientation and training of new staff

o Encourage a culture of personal accountability, solution-seeking behavior, mutual respect, open-communication, openness to change, enthusiasm, and organizational pride

o Provide management support and direct supervision of staff as may be required

o Develop performance goals and appropriate methods of measuring progress and accountability

o Provide regular feedback regarding performance to those team members who have direct reporting relationship to the Vice President

o Conduct performance evaluations

o Work with other leaders within Mary Free Bed to identify, train, and develop leaders within their area of responsibility

o Ensure compliance and participation of their leaders within Mary Free Bed’s overall leadership development processes

o Promote collaboration with other disciplines, departments, and institutions.

o Participates in various activities that indirectly impact the organization, such as involvement in community groups, professional associations and service clubs.

Partner Relations – Maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, MFB System Members, potential partners, and other healthcare providers and related entities in the community

o Assure stability and enhancement of Mary Free Bed’s service lines and market strategies

o Develop and maintain quality customer service and loyalty with new and existing customers

o Perform consultatively with senior leadership and key stakeholders to manage operations, participate in service line development and business planning, and participate in strategic planning and implementation

o Provide leadership for development of marketing activities

o Gather, organize, and report key performance indicators to Mary Free Bed’s executive team, and to the key stakeholders and board members within the System Member location

o Deliver corporate communications from Mary Free Bed to the System Member, and serve as the primary liaison to the System Member

o When required, attend executive and operational meetings within the System Member organization

Customer Service Responsibilities

Essential Job Qualifications

· Bachelors degree in administration or related field or equivalent experience.

· Licensed healthcare professional in the State of Michigan

· 7 or more years of experience in clinical leadership/management

· Knowledge of healthcare billing and coding

· Experience in healthcare compliance management/and or consulting

· Knowledge of clinical outcomes assessment tools and strategies across the care continuum

· Ability to interpret numerical and statistical information related to clinical, financial, and customer service outcomes
