THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE: The Vice President of Merchandise Planning & Inventory is responsible for setting overall Merchandise Planning and Inventory strategy to support the overall Merchandising Strategy. They will set the direction for their merchandise planning and inventory teams to ensure initiatives and priorities are integrated and aligned with the enterprise business goals, as well as oversee the execution of the function. They will lead, coach, and develop the Planning & Inventory teams to achieve financial and inventory management goals while optimizing current and future capabilities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about leading a large cross functional team through transformative improvements with a key focus on increased efficiencies, automation, defining clear roles & responsibilities, and leading through change to support Ulta’s long term growth. This position is accountable for long range financial goals, building strong brand partner relationships, income management, forecasting accuracy and inventory management. They will work in collaboration, as well as build strategic partnerships with Merchants, Supply Chain, Finance, and IT to develop and implement profitable inventory management processes to drive revenue and margins. The position reports directly to the SVP Merchandise Planning/Inventory and Operations. CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversees the development of the overall Merchandise Planning and Allocation strategy, across all channels to achieve sales, margin, and inventory plans, including the development of short, mid, and long-range merchandise performance and financial goals for all channels, producing accurate forecasts, and responding to changing business needs Builds constructive and effective relationships with cross-functional business partners (ex. Merchants, Store Operations, Finance, Marketing, IT, and Supply Chain) to define, develop and execute inventory, merchandising and operational strategies to drive retail growth initiatives and improve store efficiency and customer experience Leads large organizational change in people/process/systems as it relates to the merchandising teams – identifying new systems and technologies as well as processes, ensuring we optimize sales, margin, and manage inventory effectively Drives operational and process excellence in the team and ensures best practices are implemented and adhered to while managing effectively through the use of metrics and KPIs Effectively partners with Senior Merchant Leadership, SVP of MPO and finance teams to develop short, mid, and long-range merchandise performance and financial goals Oversees the Planning, forecasting, and enterprise open to buy Supports pricing and promotional decisions in partnership with Merchant Team to drive sales while maximizing gross margin Acts as a thought partner for Merchant Leadership on assortment management strategies and plans to drive sales and margin growth across all business categories Supports analyzing omni performance and identify underperforming areas to develop action plan for improved margin and profitability Develops and leads inventory optimization and inventory flow management strategies to maximize stock levels, allocation, replenishment, receipt flow and inventory turns THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS: Bachelor’s Degree preferred Minimum 12+ years of progressive experience overseeing planning and inventory in an Omni retail environment with a high growth retailer. Most recently at a Senior Director or VP level preferred Ability to lead a large team of 90+ with a strong focus on creating a positive culture with a key focus on team growth and development and long-term growth Proven track record of implementing and managing change Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, reflecting an appropriate sense of urgency to all levels of management and with a collaborate management style Strong business and financial analysis skills. Solid understanding of financial measurements including sales, gross margin, inventory turn and how to impact them. Strong retail math acumen, including elements of markup, margin planning, open-to-buy, inventory productivity measures (WOS, T/O, GMROI). Experience managing large teams and their performance. Ability to collaborate, adapt, change priorities and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Experience implementing and driving process consistency and best practices Strong communication and presentation skills; extensive exposure to Senior Leadership. Ability to build a business case and articulate financial concepts to non-financial business partners in a clear and concise manner. Advanced computer skills to include PowerBI, MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Forecast & Replenishment, Financial Planning, and Allocation system experience preferred (ex. JDA F&R, Manhattan - DFIO, Manugistics, E3, Arthur Allocations, O9, Anaplan) The pay range for this position is $240,000.00 - $280,000.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs.
