The Internal Audit Group (IAG) is the Company’s independent and objective internal audit function. IAG provides independent and objective assurance to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of AXP’s risk management, control, and governance processes.
The Vice President, Quality Assurance in IAG will lead a team of experienced audit professionals to design and execute the overall Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP). The purpose of the QAIP is to effectively challenge audit practices and activities and provide reasonable assurance to IAG’s internal and external stakeholders that IAG’s work is in accordance with IAG’s Charter and Policies & Procedures (P&P), Institute of Internal Auditor’s (IIA) Standards, and applicable regulatory standards. This role and team are key to IAG’s overall aspiration of being a worldclass audit function that is innovative, impactful and influential.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Oversee IAG’s quality assurance and improvement program (QAIP) including setting the strategic direction of the program, leading all aspects of the quality assurance (QA) universe, plan, reviews, corrective actions and QAIP reporting for IAG management and board committees.
+ Maintain thorough understanding of internal procedure requirements, industry standards, and regulatory requirements/expectations to ensure IAG’s QAIP is in compliance with the industry and regulatory standards and provides effective challenge of IAG’s audit practices and execution.
+ Lead thematic analysis of QA findings, observations, and regulatory issues of IAG to drive appropriate root cause improvements.
+ Lead efforts to ensure identified improvement opportunities are carried forward to real and practical solutions through coordination with the professional practice teams and audit teams.
+ Lead training to IAG on QA findings and improvement opportunities.
+ Lead discussions to regulators on the IAG’s QAIP.
+ Prepare and deliver regular reporting on QA status and results to various stakeholders, including IAG management, audit committees, bank affiliate oversight management, and company risk performance management.
+ Lead external benchmarking activities and maintain awareness of current, best-in-class internal audit practices.
+ Build, develop, supervise and retain a QA team of experienced audit professionals, managing performance and career development.
+ Coordinate execution of External Quality Assurance Review (EQAR) and any other external reviews of the QAIP or select areas of IAG.
+ Lead independent validation of IAG owned regulatory findings and coordination, which may be performed by third parties.
**Required Qualifications:**
+ 15 or more years of internal audit experience in public accounting, finance and/or internal audit in Financial Services/Banking industry (Large bank Internal Audit experience preferred)
+ Superior understanding of Internal Audit Practices and appreciation of regulatory, professional standards and best practices related to Internal Audit
+ Direct experience developing and managing high performing teams
+ College degree in Accounting, Finance or advanced degree in Accounting, or related field is preferred
+ Professional Certification (CIA, CPA, CISA or equivalent)
+ Experience with regulatory interactions and examinations
+ Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate complex issues and potential solutions from audit practitioners up through executive leadership, Board of Directors and regulators
+ Must possess detail orientation, keen attention to quality, and very strong project management skills

**Qualifications**
Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
