**Primary Function/General Purpose of Position**
The Vice President of Surgical Services Service Line is responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial oversight of all surgical services across the Bon Secours Richmond Market. This includes overseeing the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of patient care across multiple surgical specialties. The VP will drive clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and financial performance, while fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and innovation. This role requires strong leadership, strategic vision, and the ability to engage and inspire a diverse team of surgeons, nurses, allied health professionals, and administrative staff.
**Essential Job Functions**
+ __ Develop and execute the strategic vision and operational plan for surgical services across the market, aligning with the overall organizational goals.
+ Lead the development of new surgical service lines and specialties based on market needs, patient demand, and clinical trends.
+ Ensure the effective integration of surgical services with other clinical departments to enhance patient outcomes and improve care coordination.
+ Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and department leaders to establish best practices and evidence-based guidelines that support the delivery of high-quality care.
+ Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for surgical services, ensuring continuous improvement in patient safety, outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
+ Drive initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce surgical delays, and streamline workflows in all surgical departments across the market.
+ Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, etc.) for surgical care.
+ Partner with facility leadership to oversee the budget for the surgical services line, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational financial goals.
+ Monitor cost-control measures, revenue generation, and resource utilization within surgical services to achieve budgetary goals.
+ Analyze financial reports and performance metrics to identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost reduction, and process improvements.
+ Champion quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes, reduce surgical complications, and improve patient safety.
+ Collaborate with clinical teams to monitor and report surgical quality metrics, patient safety data, and outcomes.
+ Lead the development and implementation of protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality surgical care.
+ Work to standardize supplies and equipment standardization across the market.
+ Provide leadership and guidance to a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, surgical technologists, and other clinical staff.
+ Oversee the market Surgical Scheduling and Offsite Reprocessing Center teams.
+ Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous professional development.
+ Foster collaborative relationships with surgical physicians, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
+ Oversee the recruitment, training, and retention of top-tier talent within the surgical services team.
+ Act as a key liaison between executive leadership, surgical teams, and external stakeholders, including physicians, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
+ Engage with patients and families to ensure high levels of satisfaction and address concerns related to surgical care.
+ Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to promote surgical services, highlighting key achievements and innovations.
**Licensing/Certification**
+ Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia (preferred)
+ Nurse Executive Certification (preferred)
**Education**
+ Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, nursing or related field (required)
+ Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration (preferred)
**Work Experience**
+ 5-7 years of progressive leadership and clinical operations experience in surgical services (required)
+ Experience in financial management, including budget preparation, cash flow management, and analysis of financial reports. (required)
+ Demonstrated competency in physician and provider relations. (required)
+ Strong background in managing large, complex surgical departments. (required)
+ Proven track record of successful leadership in a multi-disciplinary setting, with experience managing both clinical and non-clinical teams. (required)
+ Demonstrated ability to increase revenue through program development, increased market share, business strategy as well as effecting improved operations. (preferred)
