Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance, the newly created position of Vice President of Accounting and Corporate Controller will provide executive leadership of the accounting functions for all of UMass Memorial Health. This role will develop, implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures that adhere to internal policies and generally accepted accounting principles. As a shared service center for the organization, this position will ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to support the strategic initiatives of the organization. In addition, this position will be actively engaged and leading our ongoing process improvement initiatives. This position is accountable for system-wide accounting, financial reporting, tax reporting, revenue finance and payroll.I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the accounting operations of entities within UMass Memorial.
2. Acts as a liaison between local entity financial leadership and all corporate departments to ensure conformity with policies and procedures.
3. Ensures accurate monthly financial reporting and adherence to universally applied policies and procedures across all entities in the system.
4. Oversees capital spending in accordance with corporate policies, and within capital allocation limits.
5. Participates in Senior Leadership activities to help achieve all local entity goals and objectives.
6. Coordinates annual external audits, annual tax compliance, annual cost reports and other regulatory matters for UMass Memorial.
7. Oversees the revenue finance team to ensure understanding of monthly revenue trends during the close, preparation of cost reports and annual revenue budgets
8. Consistently works to improve operational efficiency and enhance usability of financial information.
9. Responsible for oversight of the payroll department to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, adherence to internal policies and external regulations.

Standard Executive Level Responsibilities:
1. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, demotions, discipline, terminations, and similar actions.
2. Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
3. Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
4. Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
5. Fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
6. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
7. Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
8. Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
9. Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.

Experience/Skills:
1. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a health care organization.
2. Strong technical accounting skills and understanding of not-for-profit and health care finances. Ability to understand complex transactions and apply appropriate accounting guidance.
3. Demonstrated ability to work with accuracy, discretion, diplomacy, and efficiency with a variety of constituents.
Preferred:
1. Senior management experience, as demonstrated by sound management abilities.
