The Vice President of Network Development & Clinical Growth will lead business development and transactions across the clinical enterprise, leading the associated strategy, business planning, negotiation, project management, contracting and analytic support. This includes: (a) new/regional campus business development and campus expansion business strategy, (b) Dana-Farber’s domestic affiliate network, and (c) strategies for regional/domestic clinical growth, and (d) clinical joint ventures.  The Vice President will oversee the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of clinical business initiatives, working closely with clinical and administrative leaders and staff.  Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Business Strategy, this role will oversee Local, Regional and National business development and strategic priorities with providers and health systems.  Additionally, the Vice President and their team will conduct analyses and provide expertise to inform internal strategic clinical investments (e.g., major capital project, new clinical services). This individual will work closely with the executive team, directors, managers and clinical leaders to identify and implement growth opportunities and facilitate positive and cooperative business interactions with key stakeholders and potential partners. The Vice President will be responsible for executing on Dana-Farber’s multi-year network growth strategy. Collaborate with the Senior Vice President and institutional leadership to align corporate development strategies with overall business strategy priorities. VP will partner with Facilities Management and Real Estate to ensure business strategies are informed by capital modeling and development feasibility/execution.

Responsibilities

Clinical Network Business/Corporate Development Analytics and Growth Planning

Leads clinical network strategies to address growth opportunities, risks and gaps, that may address marketing/communications strategies, growth strategies, and other considerations.Leads the development certain robust analyses and strategic business plans focused on identifying, planning and monitoring clinical network growth and potentially new/expanded clinical services; Conducts ad hoc research and due diligence relating to new clinical ventures and opportunities. Synthesizes quantitative and qualitative information.Utilize data analytics to drive decisions.Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor key performance indicators associated with Network and corporate development activities.For associated strategies and monitoring, lead development of financial and volume projections for business case development and leadership sign-off.Independently plans and facilitates large meetings and workgroups with faculty and senior management across multiple departments.

 

Corporate and Business Development

Develop and implement corporate and business development strategies to drive overall business growth and achieve clinical growth objectives.Lead the development, execution and oversight of growth and business develop strategies to optimize for institutional and business growth, which may include expansion, transactions, affiliations, collaborations, investments or other models in local, regional and national territories. Strategies may include, though are not limited to: extending Dana-Farber’s clinical impact, revenue generation, business diversification, access and volume, and expanding reputation awareness.Oversee ongoing analyses of the target markets and market opportunities for Dana-Farber. Responsible for maintaining active pipeline of prospective clinical strategies, affiliates, network relationships and potentially campus expansions.Lead negotiations and development of complex business models, as needed.Ensure comprehensive clinical, financial, legal/regulatory, operational and other risk-related diligence activities are preformed prior to execution of a new relationship, as well as ongoing as appropriate.When necessary, ensure successful new relationship launch and/or transition.Identify and evaluate potential clinical joint venture opportunities. In collaboration with Senior Vice President, lead negotiations and partnerships for clinical joint ventures.

 

New Campus Business Development and Campus Expansion

Plan and execute strategies for developing new campus locations and/or expand existing campuses.Lead expansion efforts, including site selection, feasibility studies, financial planning and business development negotiations and activities (e.g., transactions, affiliations, collaborations, joint ventures or operating agreements, or other models) as needed. Support extension and renegotiation as needed.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful campus launches.Coordinate with Network and Marketing Intelligence/Performance Management teams to assess expansion needs and anticipated capacity constraints of current Dana-Farber campus locations. Develop strategies on the basis of the analyses performed by these teams, institutional priorities and external market dynamics.

 

Relationship Management and Operations Oversight

Guides and oversees activities to support relationship, quality assurance and service delivery external clinical collaboration in our Network. Work with various internal and external stakeholders to define the terms of additional agreements and implement support services and initiatives for the relationships.Oversees activities to assess certain cancer centers, develop and implement strategy for ongoing roll-out of new initiatives and programs to member sites, tracking key success metrics accordingly.Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including physicians, hospital leaders, and external partners.Ensure ongoing involvement and engagement of Dana-Farber leadership, in coordination with Senior Vice President of Business Strategy, as appropriate.Develops and maintains initiatives to align affiliates with DFCI core services for the purpose of improving care and developing new or expanded relationships.Ensure efficient and effective operations across all network management activities.Ensure alignment of activities related to affiliate hospitals with Dana-Farber goals and standards.

 

 Inform Internal Strategic Clinical Investments

Evaluate potential investments in new clinical activities or services, which may include ideation.Develop business cases and ROI analyses for proposed clinical investments.Provide strategic insights to inform clinical investment decisions.At direction of the Senior Vice President, may lead planning or launch for new business ventures during their start up and ensure oversight transition to operational/management team.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of professionals in the corporate/business development and clinical growth functions.Hires, mentors and advises, assigns and evaluates work, reviews performance formally at least annually, recommends promotion and salary adjustments and takes corrective action.Allocates managers’ time appropriately between projects and negotiates with stakeholders when priorities need to be shifted.Mentors managers to advance skills within the team related to communicating effectively, influencing stakeholders, data and financial analysis, project management, business planning, problem solving, and business development.Conduct performance evaluations and implement strategies for team success.Guides others in organizing work, setting priorities and timelines, and determining and obtaining the resources required to meet those priorities.

 

Other Responsibilities

Ensures compliance with DFCI policies, procedures, regulatory agency requirements and ensures safe, efficient and effective delivery of quality care, in collaboration with department leaders.Performs additional duties as assigned. May include domestic and international travel. Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

BA or BS required; MPH, MBA or master’s degree in health care management or related field preferredMinimum of 13 years of experience in business development, healthcare strategy, business planning in provider environment required (or related consulting experience)Experience working in an academic medical center strongly preferred; experience within oncology preferredMinimum of 8 years supervisory/management experienceExtensive experience with transactions and healthcare valuation processes and ability to lead those processes.Proven track record in network growth and development, including experience with collaborations, transactions, joint ventures and partnershipsExperience in managing diverse teams across multiple locations.Strong ethical standards and integrityExtensive experience in optimizing clinical operations and improving patient care outcomes, with knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards.High level of emotional intelligence and interpersonal, leadership and team-building skillsRobust professional network in related fieldsKnowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance, and accreditation standardsExperience working with clinical leaders at partners and advisersAbility to travel domestically as required (estimated 10-15%)
