Vice President of Development and Communications
The Vice President of Development and Communications will work to ensure the philanthropic, communications and strategic success of KidsPeace, dedicating time to directing fundraising, political advocacy and internal and external relationship-building communications of the organization.   Job Duties / Essential Functions 1. Financial Responsibility - Benchmark departmental success against industry standards and ensure the department raises more than it spends.    2. Board of Directors - Work with the President to help coordinate board activities related to the Strategic Development Committee and Mission education. Assist leadership with special projects such as strategic planning, board special events and general board relations. Assist President/CEO with Board development, recruitment and cultivation activities.    3. Serve as the President of the KidsPeace Foundation Board of Trustees and manage all aspects of the KidsPeace Foundation.     4. Oversee, support and develop existing and new Boards of Associates throughout the KidsPeace Continuum.   5. Supervise Public Relations initiatives and oversee strategies for all communications and public image efforts for the organization nationwide.   6. Supervise outreach and communications initiatives targeting KidsPeace’s associate base.    7. All other duties as assigned by management.   8. Regulations and Ethics - Ensure organizational compliance with state and federal regulations related to fundraising, lobbying, the code of ethics established by the National Society of Fundraising Executives and other ethical standards as they relate to Advancement.   9. Government Relations – Manage political advocacy efforts together with the President and appropriate staff.   10. Planned and Deferred Giving - Cultivate donors to deferred giving. Recommend, implement and evaluate strategies for increasing deferred gift support, particularly with respect to wills, gift annuities, the pooled income fund and charitable trusts.    11. Direct Mail – Recommend, implement and evaluate strategies for obtaining and increasing current gift support, with an effective progression to the ultimate goal of obtaining financial support through donations. Develop appropriate and effective appeal letters, thank you letters, proposals, and grant requests, etc. Ensure that the in-house donor file list receives written appeals consistent with donor's ability to give financially and respond favorably emotionally. Ensure that appeal letters and thank you letters motivate and appreciate with warmth, dignity and credibility.    12. Fundraising Management - Direct all fundraising activities for KidsPeace, including but not limited to: major gifts and capital campaigns, donor moves management, planned and deferred giving, direct mail, special events, grants and foundations.   Qualifications (Education, Training and Experiences) 1. Bachelor's degree in fundraising, communications, public relations or government affairs or other related field required. Master’s degree preferred. 2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, management, creative writing, research, special events planning and project management required. 3. Experience organizing and executing National fundraising campaigns.
