Position Summary
PVS is actively recruiting for a VP of Finance and Accounting to lead its staff of accounting professionals. This position is a key PVS executive leadership team member and a business partner to the operations team. The VP of Finance and Accounting is responsible for the planning and executing the business’s strategy including all aspects of external and internal financial reporting, ERP systems and financial process flows, budgeting and forecasting, tax and regulatory compliance, risk and insurance, and accounting operations.
Qualified candidates for this role will have at least 10 years of progressive accounting experience including leading a team, strong knowledge of ERP systems, and strong communication presenting to officer-level leadership. Optimally preferred candidates will have a CPA, experience with business intelligence tools, and experience with job cost and project accounting. This position will be based in the Troy, MI office five days per week.
Responsibilities
• Strategic: Provide direction on external and internal reporting, ERP technology and process flows, budgeting and forecasting, risk and insurance strategy, and accounting operations designed to drive business results.
• External Reporting: Report financials monthly according to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to the PVS shareholders. Work with internal stakeholders to streamline processes to ensure proper accuracy and timing of reporting requirements.
• Internal Reporting: Advise and implement financial metrics and analytics to be used by the Management Team to monitor and assess business performance on a real-time basis continuously. Provide direction and implementation on the use of technology, including the use of Power BI.
• ERP Systems and Process Flows: PVS uses Microsoft D365 as its ERP system. Provide direction on configuration and use to maximize efficiencies. Work with all departments on improving process flows to ensure accuracy and timely visibility of data.
• Budgeting: With other key members of senior management, present the annual budget to the shareholders. Provide direction internally on the information and timing required to complete the budget, with timely completion according to shareholder requirements.
• Forecasting: Provide ongoing forecasts internally to the senior management team and externally to the shareholders.
• Tax and Regulatory Compliance: Work with external CPA firms to complete Federal, State, and Local tax returns in the USA and Canada. Ensure compliance with sales and use tax laws. Complete state annual reports timely. Work with any tax or regulatory agency performing audits.
• Risk and Insurance: Work with the shareholder’s insurance department and 3rd party vendor, provide information and relevant business details to allow proper insurance coverage.
• 401(k) Benefit Plan: As trustee of the plan ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and issue annual tax returns and financial reports.
• Accounting Operations: Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization’s financial assets. Work with the accounting team and other departments to ensure the accuracy and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts. Maintain optimal cash flow. Provide leadership with other departments on process flows and use of technology to improve effectiveness and efficiencies.
• People Management: Hire, coach, develop, lead, and manage accounting department personnel.
• Change Management: Drive organizational change according to the company’s accounting and technology strategy. Ensure execution of that strategy through the management teams. Remove barriers to VP Finance and Accountings’ focus, goals, and objectives, and help accounting personnel to prioritize.
• New Business: Manage new business due diligence and ensure start-ups have adequate accounting systems ready for business by the go-live date.
Qualifications
• CPA preferred with 10+ years of accounting experience with an exceptional track record in managing a team of accounting professionals, using judgment to prioritize and complete tasks/projects on time and at a high standard.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Exceptional communication and influencing skills. Must possess the confidence, experience, and ability to communicate effectively with the President of business and to actively contribute to company leadership strategy discussions.
• Strong knowledge and experience of ERP systems: Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Power BI preferred but not necessary.
• Strong knowledge and experience of accounting functions: GAAP, internal process flow improvement, budgeting and forecasting, tax and regulatory compliance, and risk and insurance.
• Strong Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
• Demonstrated ability to drive and maintain accountability for results.
• Experience with job cost and project accounting preferred but not necessary.
• Ability to work well independently and as a team member, hand les pressure, and is self-driven with a sense of urgency.
• Strong analytical skills with the motivation and ability to develop operational financial data/metrics and reports for analyses and use by the executive leadership team.
• Ability to travel 5%.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
