Vice President of Insurance and Risk Management

MV Transportation is seeking an experienced Vice President of Insurance and Risk Management to lead strategic initiatives of the insurance team and partner with our Operations stakeholders to evaluate and assess programs, compliance, and risks. In this highly visible role, you will work closely with the Legal, Operations, Safety, Claims, and Procurement teams to ensure that risk mitigation countermeasures are effective to ensure continued safety and compliance for MV and our clients.

 

Communication and teamwork with our Chief Safety Officer, third party administrator (TPA), and broker will be a key requirement.  The role is also responsible for setting and measuring KPI’s, preparing materials for the Board of Directors and other key external stakeholders.

 

The Vice President of Risk will roll up their sleeves and leverage their knowledge of regulations, expertise of insurance coverages, insight into industry standards, and their experience in risk assessment and mitigation to create and influence MV’s policies and strategies while ultimately improving the safety of our employees and the general public and positively impacting our financial success. 

 

This role will liaise with our insurance brokers and procure the insurance towers and policies related to Automobile, Workers Compensation, General Liability, Cyber, and Executive Risk programs.  This role will also play a key role in running an RFP related to TPA services, as well as implementing a new RMIS system in 2025.

Responsibilities:

Create an integrated insurance framework for the entire organization.Develop plans to retain, transfer and mitigate risks.Create and disseminate risk measurements and reports.Partner with MV’s insurance broker to market MV Transportation to insurance underwriters to build key relationships and maximize premium savings.Communicate to key stakeholders regarding the risk profile of the business.Work with MV’s insurance broker to determine the types and specifics of the various insurance policies that the organization should buy based on MV’s risk appetite and corporate visions. Recommend any alternative insurance structures, coverages or retention levels based on the evolving insurance market and MV’s trajectory.Educate MV’s Executive Team about insurance program alternatives for final approval.Review RFPs and proposed contracts to determine MV’s compliance with insurance requirements.Coordinate with MV Finance Team to determine insurance rates for contracts, insurance premium paymentsMake recommendations on pricing for insurance in new proposals and bidsLiaise with actuaries in evaluating outstanding reserves.

Talent Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business, policy, risk management or related field.10+ years of risk management, regulatory engagement, or similar discipline experience including engaging with external stakeholders. Self-starter who can develop strategic direction, plan effective tactics, and deliver specific results. Exceptional, demonstrated project management experience. Demonstrated ability to understand varied and complex business processes and technologies. Highly effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to interact at all corporate and divisional levels. Ability to create factual, relevant, and easily understandable talking points and other messaging, and persuasively deliver it to relevant audiences. Must be flexible and demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills. Intelligently build a course of action, analyze trade-offs, and provide recommendations.Ability to prioritize workloads and maintain a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
