**Hours of Work :** 8-5 **Days Of Week :** M-F **Work Shift :** **Job Description :** The **Vice President (VP) & Chief Planning Officer** reporting to the President & Chief Operating Officer (COO), direct and lead system-wide business development, strategic business development and joint venture development projects. **Job Requirements:** • Master’s degree in business, planning or related discipline is required • A minimum of five to ten years of progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, program development, and physician integration • Strong financial modeling and pro forma development • Strong presentation skills **Job Responsibilities:** Strategic Planning • Lead the strategic planning process for MHS and support the senior team in their participation and execution of the process: + Initiate proposals for plan + Manage processes + Develop plans + Institute and manage performance + Communicate strategic direction, plan performance and update in a formal, predictable fashion • Lead and coordinate strategic planning at all levels of the System, including fully integrated initiatives as well as those at the operating unit and service line levels. • Promote an understanding and ensure appropriate use of market data, strategic planning and business planning models throughout the System. • Assure the strategic plan is a living document from which all business initiatives originate. Business Plan Development • Prioritize System requests and direct support for business plan development to operating units based on the strategic plan. • Support the development of business plans for new and existing products and services, as they relate to the strategic plan. • Work with internal customers to prioritize departmental resources among competing demands. • Develop primary and secondary research needs to support business plan development. • Incorporate financial analysis into business plan and maintain quantitative discipline throughout the planning process. Market Research • Collaborate with marketing, finance and other internal customers to define data and information needed for market/product/service development and evaluation. • Ensure the integrity and standardization of data. • Continually monitor the external environment and provide information that will impact the strategic plan with timely and predictable reports, i.e., ongoing competitive assessments and System “report card.” Information Analysis and Reporting • Oversee the development, analysis, reporting and communication of System-wide business and operational information to support decision making. • Ensure standardization of statistical and analytical tools for data management including collection, mining, reporting, and interpretation. • Compile demand analysis which includes: + Workforce development + Physician manpower planning + Capacity demand + Technology demand • Develop planning reports and schedule for distribution. Coordination of Department and Staff Development • Recruit, develop, and manage a group of market facing staff, strategic planners, analysts, and support staff who provide services to external clients. • Effectively collaborate with other departments, with particular emphasis on working in concert with information systems to ensure System integration. • Build a team of talent and empower the team to maximize individual and group performance. **Other Considerations:** • A knowledge of and ability to apply principles of planning, marketing, business development, organizational change, and system thinking to the organization’s senior leadership team is expected. • Track record of progressive accomplishments and increasingly complex healthcare planning roles and experiences preferably earned in a relatively large, complicated hospital or health system environment. Academic health system experience strongly preferred. • Record of success in operations administration or clinical leadership involving programmatic development and planning experience will be given consideration. • Operations expertise to oversee and orchestrate all phases of planning including developing strategies, setting objectives, allocating resources, implementing initiatives to improve effectiveness, establishing effective lines of communication, and coordinating multiple initiatives and stakeholders. • Proven success in business plan development and execution, facilitation of strategic processes, and financial analysis. Demonstrated skill to collaborate with physicians, operational leadership, finance team, and clinical staff to develop and write business plan for clinical programs. • Proficiency to assemble environmental, clinical and market data, projections and market research, and organize and implement methods for evaluating performance of plans. Skill to organize and report data in a comprehensive and informative way incorporating quantitative and qualitative information such as market share, forecasting, competitive intelligence, and field reports. • Experience in planning and preparing leadership meetings, conferences, and retreats, facilitating during the events, and tracking post-meeting initiatives and projects. • Experience and skill to understand the impact of regulatory issues on strategic and business plans, and diligence to remain current on issues that may potentially influence organizational effectiveness and marketplace competitiveness. • Demonstrated record as a mentor with skill to encourage career development and provide training, education, and leadership development opportunities for planning managers in order to meet the ongoing and future planning needs of the enterprise. • Demonstrated excellence in customer service to internal and external staff and departments. Leadership acumen to serve as ambassador for the enterprise both internally and externally. Experience and leadership acumen to coordinate initiatives involving community groups and community leaders. • Documented record as a team leader and team player that strives to maintain a work environment that promotes mutual respect and professionalism. Successfully works with key leaders throughout the enterprise to gain full understanding of their strategy, issues, and challenges of business unites. Applies that knowledge to provide long-range planning solutions. • Possesses broad set of skills and experience to fully develop a planning director role. Expertise to work through political and process issues with multiple departments. Able to establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with a broad range of departments and staff. • Skill to multi-task with little to no direction on prioritization of tasks. Able to grasp and understand complex processes and interdependencies in hospital operations and medical school operations in multiple departments at multiple levels. Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills, and strong leadership skills to lead teams with varying needs and produce results. • A student of operations efficiency, who possesses working knowledge of relevant trends, identifies useful strategic methods, assesses best practices, and develops internal processes to support best choice long-term planning. A mentor who coaches key individuals within the enterprise regarding methods, best practices, and strategies, and who directly collaborates with management and staff to develop and execute strategic, complex, and/or high-impact planning initiatives. • Record for effectively planning, formatting, managing, and interpreting expense, capital, and operational budgets. In-depth knowledge of economic factors impacting current and future healthcare administration is desired. • Ability to monitor and anticipate emerging technologies to ensure necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities exist within the current infrastructure or are identified and targeted in long-term plans. • Evidence of participation within local, regional, and national professional associations or organizations desired.
