Job Description

 

The New York Times is looking for a Video Editor who can help bring our audio portfolio to mobile, social and digital audiences through horizontal video podcasts and vertical video clips. 

You will support all post-production and edit needs for individual shows and clips. You have experience editing short-form audio video pieces in a multi-camera environment, a willingness to support in all aspects of post-production, and an in-depth knowledge of Adobe systems. 

The Video Editor will work with an Executive Producer, a Video Journalist, a Senior Video Editor, and other internal and external collaborators to assist in the publication of audio video work that enhances our report. This role is for someone with a deep interest in social video trends and a willingness to take innovative and adaptive approaches to video formats and techniques.

You have a strong digital video editing background, can deliver top-notch product under intense deadline pressure, and can work with flexible hours.

This is a hybrid position based in New York City and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. 

Responsibilities:

Bring a digital first mindset to editing on-platform and for social media  

Help edit full-length videos and video clips

Turn around short news clips under time-sensitive conditions

Assist in all aspects of post-production, including but not limited to ingesting footage, organizing media, maintaining file naming conventions, and exporting and archiving all deliverables

Collaborate on optimizing a post production and archival workflow 

Optimize new and existing video footage for social platforms

Perform related work as assigned

This role reports to the Executive Producer, Podcast Video

Basic Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in video editing 

Experience in Adobe Premiere and CS

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience organizing and managing media

Comfortable working autonomously and collaboratively

Willingness to work a flexible schedule 

Experience editing video podcasts

Experience working in Newsroom environments

Understanding of the digital video landscape

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $111,711.62 and $120,000.00.
