About the role

Reporting to the Regional Vineyard Manager, The Vineyard Manager, Central Coast is accountable for all aspects of running the vineyard(s) as a business unit within the regional structure by ensuring that fruit is produced to specification and that key business objectives are achieved through the application of best practice in the areas of viticulture, commercial, budgeting, human resources, continuous improvement and HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) management.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

Ensure fruit produced meets “end use” specification thus providing outstanding value to the customer; meeting yield, grade and tonnage targets.  Develop and manage capital and operating budgets/projects that support the achievement of business objectives.  Participate in the business planning process for the region and lead the planning and implementation of strategies and objectives for the site(s).  Manage the implementation of all capital projects.  Minimize costs of production without compromising “end use” specification of fruit.  Foster innovation in work practices through the integration of viticultural best practice into the business.  Ensure the workforce mix (numbers, skills and flexibility) aligns with production and business requirements, allowing for seasonal and business cycle variations.  Develop the capability of the vineyard team to enable them to make and implement decisions.  Minimize loss, thereby maximizing profit to the business, through ensuring the implementation and maintenance of TWE’s HSE system (Safety, Quality, and Environment) and CI principals.  Ensure adherence to all aspects of legal compliance as they relate to the role. Manage a grape supply plan for the region in collaboration with supply chain stakeholders. The grape supply plan will include yield, tonnage and grade targets for a 5-year period.  Improve vineyard efficiency through utilization of AgCode, farm plans and other associated programs.  Includes management of work orders, payroll systems and associated administrative functions  Conduct field grading of grapes in conjunction with winemakers at harvest to come to pick decisions.  Maximize the use of multi-row and multifunctional equipment to align with the TWE Continuous Improvement program.  Organize harvest equipment, shipping and intake with various wineries across regions. 

 

About you

With Tertiary Qualifications in Viticulture or a closely related field you will have extensive experience in a leadership role in viticulture or related business.

5 years relevant experience or combination of degree and experience  Extensive experience managing a medium size business unit  Commercial acumen  Human Resource Management  Communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills  Computer literacy  Spanish literacy an advantage

Pay Transparency Disclosure: The base pay range offered for this position is $87,000 to $120,000 per year. These figures represent what we reasonably expect to pay for this position, but the actual compensation offered will depend upon numerous job-related factors, including but not limited to candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and alignment with market data. Our expectation is that the incumbent will work out of Paso Robles, CA. If the incumbent works out of another location, the wage rate may fall above or below this range. Treasury reserves the right to modify the range in the future.
