Viral Vector Biologist (3-5 years)

Job Title: Biologist (3-5 Years)
Location: New York / NY, near the Village/29th street area
Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Type: Contract One Year
Pay Rate: Up to $49.20 hour max, depending upon experience

Responsibilities: Conduct experiments of the viral vector process to deliver internal productions of recombinant baculoviruses and AAVs. Design and execute molecular and cell biology experiments.  Assist in the group efforts on vector expression system upgrade, cell line development and characterization, and AAV capsids.  Manage experimental workflows and vector inventory through electronic lab notebook documentation of experimental data, protocols, and reports.  AAV stands for Adeno-Associated Virus, a small, non-pathogenic virus commonly used as a gene therapy vector to deliver genetic material into cells. AAV is favored in gene therapy because it can efficiently infect both dividing and non-dividing cells without integrating into the host genome, reducing the risk of unwanted genetic mutations. Baculovirus is a family of large, double-stranded DNA viruses that primarily infect insects, particularly caterpillars. They are widely used as expression vectors for recombinant protein production in biotechnology and research Requirements: MSc with 3+ years, or PhD with 0+ years of relevant experience in a scientific discipline such as molecular/cell biology, genetics, virology, or related field.  Proficiency in molecular and cell biology techniques (cell culture with mammalian and/or insect cell lines, molecular cloning, transfection).  Knowledge or preferably experience in Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) and/or baculovirus.  Strong interpersonal and organizational communication skills, and a good team player.  Creative thinking, attention to details, and efficient project management in a fast-paced work environment.
