Summary:

A virtual registered nurse (RN) is responsible for remote patient management and care in the inpatient setting. As a member of the patient care team, the RN collaborates, communicates, and facilitates care with providers and patients or families. Virtual nurses maintain patient anonymity and safety through the use of various technological platforms. To be successful in the role, a nurse should be comfortable making autonomous clinical decisions to provide patient-centered care. Experience working with EHR systems is required.

Experience/Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required 2-5 years of RN experience in an acute care hospital Medical or Telemetry experience preferred Experience caring for medically complex patients Ability to demonstrate independent clinical decision-making Strong communication skills, both verbal and written Proficient EHR technology (Epic preferred), Microsoft, and GE monitoring Strong understanding of HIPAA and data security on telehealth platforms

License/Certification Requirements

Registered Nurse in State of IL ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire

 

Responsibilities:

Oversight of real time quality metrics in the EHR with a focus on time sensitive indicators such as MEWS and Sepsis alertsNursing Clinical ResourceCommunicating with patients and other healthcare providers via video conferencing technology, including desktop computers, mobile devices, tablets, and smartphones Planning, assessing, implementing, and evaluating a patient’s care plan Performing admission intake, patient education, and discharge teaching Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to provide goal-directed care Utilizing clinical decision-making to escalate concerns to the care team Documenting patient interactions using the EHR system Providing virtual education about a patient’s diagnosis, test results, and treatment planProviding telephonic counseling
