The engineer will assist in the evaluation and testing of new virtualization platforms, development of tools to help automate the certification/benchmarking of platforms, interface with vendors and help define the virtualization strategy for the firm. Other duties include architectural consultation, third level systems support, and general project management and execution. Candidate must be able to work in a team environment and listen, communicate, evaluate, problem solve, multitask effectively, and prioritize tasks.
Activities:
· Develop scripted automation.
· Assess and improve existing architectures and performance.
·Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve system level issues on large, busy networks.
·Inventory components and assist in new hardware procurements.
· Prototype new virtualization strategies to meet client requirements.
· Assist in prototype of big-data strategies that leverage virtualization and/or bare-metal assets.
·Present and implement solutions to business partners.
·Coordinate ongoing system maintenance activities.
Skills Requirements:
Required Skills
·In-depth knowledge of virtualization technologies (including KVM, VMWare, etc.).
·In-depth understanding of big-data technologies (including Hadoop, NoSQL, etc.).
·Understanding of security risks.
·Understanding of software provisioning and configuration (including Cobbler, Puppet, etc.).
· Fluent in networking (DNS, DHCP, VLAN), troubleshooting, and firewall environments.
· Strong knowledge of resource and system optimization.
· Prior involvement designing replication and disaster recovery.
· Understanding of storage systems (SAN/NAS) and concepts.
·Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
· Able to architect complex solutions, improve, and maintain our Virtual infrastructure.
Minimum Experience
·10 plus years of progressive enterprise experience in network engineering.
·3 years of progressive experience in virtualization engineering.
· Candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be confident and reliable.
· Proven ability to assume ownership and willingness to take on responsibility and manage tasks to completion.
Preferred:
· Experience with Cloudera, Hortonworks, and MapR software.
· Experience with multiple programming languages.
·CISSP certification or other security certification. Certifications are desirable.
Duration: These are long term contracts and can go as long as the LM contract with SSA. Federal contracts are usually seven years.
