Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History
The Art History Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a one-year position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2025. The position may be extended for a second year. Ideal candidates will have teaching experience at the college level and be enthusiastic about working closely with undergraduate students. Candidates from all areas are encouraged to apply, but we especially seek candidates with expertise in teaching areas not currently covered by the department. The teaching load will be the equivalent of five courses per year, including some combination of foundational courses and courses in the candidate’s specialty area. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $76,000 to $78,500. Concentrators hone skills in visual literacy, critical thinking, written and oral communication, and engage with innovative digital technologies. Many of our courses provide students with opportunities for experiential and project-based learning, from working with collections at the Wellin Museum and Burke Library, to field trips to regional museums and historical sites, to creating virtual exhibitions and digital visual narratives.
