Posting Number: 20241127F Position Title: Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Health Law Clinic Position Type: Faculty Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Department: 241-Law School Instruction Position Summary: Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law seeks an outstanding lawyer-educator to direct and teach its Health Law Clinic as a Visiting Assistant Professor during the 2024-25 academic year. The position is a 12-month, visiting position beginning summer 2024, with the possibility of an additional twelve-month or a continuing appointment thereafter.

The Health Law Clinic represents low-income clients in their efforts to obtain accessible, quality health care. The Director will have discretion to develop the docket and focus on particular areas of interest moving forward.

Duties and Responsibilities: Teach clinic seminar focused on lawyering skills, professional development, and ethical practice, employing clinical teaching methods. Supervise all aspects of student practice, employing clinical teaching pedagogy, and serve as the attorney of record in Clinic cases when required by the rules of the relevant jurisdiction. Oversee all aspects of administration of the Health Law Clinic, including but not limited to conducting outreach to clients, selecting cases, reporting to funding sources, and maintaining files. Minimum Qualifications: A Juris Doctor degree is required. Pennsylvania bar membership (or an ability to waive into the Pennsylvania bar) is required. An understanding of, and commitment to, clinical teaching methodology, including an ability to work both collaboratively and independently and a demonstrated interest in and aptitude for student supervision and teaching is required. Relevant legal practice experience is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Expertise in relevant substantive areas of law is required. Preferred Qualifications: Prior clinical teaching experience or experience supervising law students is preferred.
