The Visiting Assistant Professor is a non-tenure track position held by an individual who possesses all the qualifications to be appointed at that rank or who has held that rank at another institution. The Visiting Assistant Professor’s teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor.

Description of Primary Duties
The Biology Department at Missouri State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Visiting Assistant Professor for the academic year 2025-26 with a commitment to inclusive teaching practices and increasing student diversity and retention. Primary responsibilities include teaching lectures and labs in genetics, molecular techniques, and an additional course, such as bioinformatics or a course in the candidate’s primary area of research expertise. The expected teaching load per semester is 12 contact hours. Additional duties may include undergraduate academic advising and departmental service.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Additional Qualifications Requirements include a Ph.D. in genetics or a related field and excellent communication skills.
