Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Weatherspoon Art Museum at UNC Greensboro advances individual and shared engagement with original works of art through expanding and sustaining access, collaboration, and organizational transformation. It embraces its public service role and capacity for meaningful teaching and learning with art to positively impact lives. This includes answering questions, enforcing rules, looking out for suspicious behavior, providing assistance, and engaging visitors about works of art, museum programs, and how to support the museum. Supports the director in developing a vibrant and engaged community by promoting the museum’s strategic framework and goals
Monitor all museum visitors and ensure they adhere to museum protocols and policies. Keep logs, security checklists, and art inventories daily. Become thoroughly knowledgeable of the museum facility, CCTV, intrusion, life safety, and HVAC /mechanical systems. Able to stand/walk constantly throughout the day and regularly interact with the public. Should exhibit sound judgment and the ability to calmly and quickly take initiative in emergency situations. Flexibility to work on a rotating on-call basis during evening hours and in case of systems failure. Demonstrated commitment to a diverse and equitable working environment and to serving the needs of the campus and community.
This is a temporary position, with an 11-month renewal period Minimum Qualifications HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY AND DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. Should have a genuine interest in communicating with members of the public and campus community, and assisting visitors.
