VLS ATE Senior Electrical Engineer

Precise Systems is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the Vertical Launch System (VLS) Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Engineering Branch at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD).  The position will consist of serving as a member of the Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) Team and providing test equipment and simulator design and development for the MK41 and MK57 Vertical Launching System (VLS) Programs.  Test equipment efforts include the design, programming, building, testing, delivery, maintenance, documentation, and training

Duties:

Mentor and coach both government and contractor junior engineers and technicians. Design new ATE systems and assorted other VLS test equipment. Provide oversight to control software used in the new system designs.  This entails either designing the software and/or working closely with a software engineer to ensure a robust and error free product. Provide engineering support for: acceptance; installation and checkout; troubleshooting and repair of prototype and production test systems. Provide engineering support to conduct test system indoctrination, maintenance, and technician and operator training. Provide appropriate schematics, diagrams and write specifications to clarify design details of prototype/experimental electronics units. Supervise the fabrication and assembly of prototype and production electrical and electronic systems. Collaborate with the technicians to identify solutions to technical design problems that arise during design, fabrication, and checkout of electrical systems. Supervise the creation of the technical data package (manuals, procedures, drawings, etc.) of the candidate’s new system design. Ensure that all design documentation is complete and error free. Inspect existing designs for quality, common design practices, potential component EOL issues, optimization, improvement, and potential cost reductions.  The candidate will report findings and provide recommendations to the appropriate entities. Redline technical data packages (manuals, procedures, drawings, etc.) to reflect changes and errors in design or implementation. Provide engineering support for All-Up Round (AUR) Built-In-Test (BIT) systems and other launcher and canister test equipment.  This support includes but is not limited to test set layout; hardware and test set configurations; test set to AUR interface support; installation and checkout.

Required Education:

BSEE or equivalent engineering degree required MSEE or equivalent engineering degree is a plus

Required Experience:

10 + years of experience in electronics hardware and software design

Desired Skills:

Solid electronics background and experience in digital and analog hardware design at the system level. In depth knowledge of DC and AC measurement techniques in a bench and ATE environment required. In depth understanding of ATE architecture is required. Excellent electronics debugging skills are required. PCB design experience required encompassing the proper application of design rules to maximize signal integrity and optimize low noise power distribution. Experience working with National Instruments PXI and PXIe hardware and LabView software is a plus. Experience using UNIX, LINUX, and Windows operating systems. Fluency in system programming languages such as C++, C#, Visual Basic, etc. Knowledge of Navy IA requirements and procedures is a plus. FPGA programming experience utilizing Verilog and/or VHDL hardware design languages is a plus. Knowledge of microcontroller design and programming is a plus. Knowledge of PERL and Python programming languages with emphasis on hardware control is a plus.

Other Requirements:

Ability to lift at least 25lbs. Ability to travel up to 25%. Valid driver’s license for possible CONUS travel. Current U.S. passport for possible OCONUS travel. Ability to learn quickly and work independently. High degree of self-motivation. Self-starter willing to work in a team environment and mentor junior engineers

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
