Lead Engineer (Virtualization)

Description:

The qualified candidate must have working knowledge of modern virtual infrastructure technologies and concepts. The candidate will, at a minimum, possess certification and practical experience working with VMware vSphere including design, implementation, operation, and troubleshooting. The candidate must have experience with blade server platforms, SAN and NAS integration in a virtual infrastructure, and networking concepts such as VLANs and distributed virtual switches. The candidate must be proficient in P2V planning and execution as well as virtual machine creation and management. The candidate should also have strong written and verbal communication skills.

The ideal candidate must be able to perform the following tasks for customers and have knowledge of the following:

 

•Requirements gathering and virtual infrastructure design and operations

•Installation and configuration of VMware vSphere including integration with:

o NAS / SAN Storage (FC, FCoE, NFS, iSCSI)

o Network environments (VLAN tagging, trunking, etc.)

o OS Platform deployment methodologies (templates, standardizations, security hardening)

o Management capabilities (Microsoft DNS, AD, Linux Bind, Ldap, etc.)

 

•Installation, configuration, and operation of VMware vSphere and dependent components.

•Planning and execution of physical-to-virtual (P2V) migrations.

•Planning and execution of datacenter relocations.

•Application and Infrastructure dependency mapping.

•Troubleshoot performance and other infrastructure issues

•Create technical documentation pertaining to design, architecture, operation, etc.

3+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, supporting, and managing VMware Infrastructure in a production and/or lab (test, dev, QA, stage) environment.

 

Ability to travel up to 25%.

 

Required Education:

Bachelor of Science or Business Administration degree in computing or equivalent work experience.

Certifications in any of the following strongly desired:

VMware VCP certification

Citrix CCA certification

Microsoft MCTS Virtual Machine Manager certification

CCNA, MCP, ITIL, PMI
