Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. Located in Red Hook,NY, this position isresponsible for instructing students in social, vocational, and Adult Daily Living skills necessary for development. The Vocational Specialist will establish a learning environment conducive to maximum vocational and social learning and will evaluate students’ progress and level of proficiency. In conjunction with the Vocational Coordinator, the Vocational Specialist will assure that vocational program(s) are properly licensed in accordance with Department of Labor regulations and that students are remunerated in accordance with DOL law. They will meet with appropriate personnel to identify work-training sites, identify functional work activities, specify job markets, etc. The Vocational Specialist will be required to be certified in driving Devereux vehicles. Will consider candidates working toward degree. **EXPERIENCE:** One year experience with job coaching and working with developmentally disabled clients preferred. Must have experience with cooking, baking, housekeeping/cleaning, and greenhouse/gardening. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:** Free of dependency or abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants, or other chemical or controlled substances. Significant, prolonged, and frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, and lifting of 50 lbs. or more is required. Using standard crisis intervention procedures, must be able to single handedly effect the initial restraint of children and adolescents weighing between 75 and 150 lbs.
