Responsibilities

Educational and Employment placement responsibility for 70 young adults participating in Scattered Site Supportive Housing Program in Harlem.  Position reports to Program Supervisor. 

Provide service to all participants, in collaboration with the case planning staff, clinical staff, individual and group formalized instruction in Independent Living Skills.In preparation for transition, provide participants with resource information and assistance in locating appropriate and stable housing.Provide to all eligible participants vocational training either directly or through referral to a structured programProvide assistance in selection and admission into the most appropriate educational setting.Assist participants in locating, maintaining, and preparing for a job.  Create and maintain employer relationships in the community to then refer appropriate participants for employment.Develop contacts with outside consultant/trainers providing job readiness services, career counseling, academic tutoring, and IL related workshops.  Research, develop and organize information on resource programs and services related to Independent Living.  Facilitate financial literacy curriculum for all participants. Document all required service related contacts with participants in EVOLV.  Maintain attendance records and participation reports on youth involvement in IL servicesBe available some week nights and evenings to respond to emergencies and provide crisis intervention support for clientsParticipate in action plan meetings in coordination with case planners and supervisor, including the  monthly meetings and clinical meetingsCollaborate with the case planner on initial intensive engagement to define service plan, assist with support services and contacts with the participantAttend trainings and conferences for professional growth.  Attend regular coaching supervision sessions, team and staff meetings (in person or via phone / video conferencing as needed)Create and maintain online career opportunity bulletin / education opportunities with other program staff.Coordinate and arrange recreational activities for program participantsUnderstand and analyze program monitoring data for individual client progress and the program’s key performance indicators.Be competent using smartphone, laptop, NYF identified apps and online tools (Microsoft Office) to track all work-time, task accountability, and maintain safe and responsive communication with clients and program team.Complete job-related tasks as needed / assigned by Program Supervisor.Provide afterhours coverage for residents emergencies one week quarterly. 

Salary Range: $53,550-$60,850/year

Qualifications

BA or BSW required, MSW preferred.  

 

Other Requirements:  
A minimum of 1-2 years experience working with youth; familiarity with the NYC child welfare system a plus; experience working with youth with mental health and substance use issues a plus; bilingual Eng/Span preferred.  Experience with employment and educational coaching a plus. Must be an excellent communicator and have good interpersonal skills (to interact with staff, participants, and employers/stakeholders.  Must be a good writer and have demonstrated ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

 

Ability and willingness to work some weekends and evenings is required. Must be available for quarterly after hours coverage. 

 

Due to the nature of this program, the Supportive Housing Vocational Specialist can expect to spend at least 50% of work time in the field or working remotely and must use tools and policies to record work time and maintain communication and accountability

Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.
