The Conversations on Aging (COA) Volunteer position is responsible for providing support to seniors in the community. This is a social engagement program designed for older adults to help them navigate the changes that come with aging, and to support an understanding of relevant cultural and age-related issues. All volunteers must understand, appreciate, and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community.
What does a Conversation on Aging (COA) Volunteer do?
Facilitates group conversations for seniors on specific age -related topics Facilitates Life Story groups offering seniors an opportunity to tell their storyFacilitates ongoing, non-therapeutic support groups for seniors interested in weekly connectionsTraining & Support:
COA volunteer orientationMonthly education and support meetings Consultation and supervision as neededTraining on various age-related topics of interest Group facilitation skillsTime Commitment:
Volunteers commit to attending the monthly and quarterly education and support meetings throughout their active volunteering with Cascadia.Minimum of one-year commitmentCommit to 2.5 – 10 hours per month for a minimum of one yearQualifications:
Our age requirement for this Volunteer role is 55 and older.Ability to travel to a variety of locations to facilitate in person groups (when applicable)Be self-directed, practice listening skills, and provide empathyRespect and maintain confidentiality of group participant’s, volunteers, partners, and donorsDemonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skillsTreat all participants and team members with respect and dignity.Understand, appreciate, and respect diversity and cultural differences.Show sensitivity to the perspectives and perceptions of participants, peers, staff and referring agencies.Comply with the site safety policies and procedures.Maintain confidentiality of information as appropriatePlease email peopleandculture@cascadiahealth.org with any questions.
