BASIC PURPOSE

The Volunteer & Mission Integration Coordinator will support promoting mission awareness by educating staff, volunteers, and stakeholders about The Salvation Army’s mission, values, and goals.  This position serves as a liaison between leadership and staff to communicate the importance of mission integration and to ensure that the organization’s programs, services, and activities align with its mission and values. 

This position will build and effectively manage a team of volunteers by maximizing their contribution to the mission of The Salvation Army while ensuring a rewarding experience for the volunteers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement programs in outreach to community businesses. Oversee and follow up with all prayer requests for the Kroc Center. Organize, manage, and attend internal outreach programs. Examples are: Movie Night, Sports Devotionals, Kroctoberfest, and more. Lead a weekly voluntary prayer meeting for staff and others who wish to attend. Develop and implement a 20 – 30-minute voluntary Bible Study for employees at the Kroc Center. Organize the rotation of Youth Ministry volunteers. Partner with Corps Officers and staff to coordinate the schedule of events and use of facility space. Assist with special events as assigned. Perform MOD duties at the Kroc Center up to 4 times per month. Develop a small groups’ ministries program that provides for the care, feeding, and spiritual development of members and attendees to create opportunities for evangelism. Assist with transportation for events / programs as requested. Work with Corps Officers to plan corps meals and order food items to accommodate all programs. Collaborate with Marketing Department for social media outreach. Oversee volunteer programs within The Salvation Army Kroc Center and Social Services (Fairfield & Vallejo). This includes recruiting, screening, and selecting all volunteers in addition to developing, implementing and monitoring the program. Collaborate with the on-site program managers to determine their volunteer needs and to discuss innovative ways volunteers may be leveraged in the various programs. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Prepare written policy proposals as needed for the use of volunteers and submit to Corps Officers for approval. Create and maintain a database for volunteer records including time given, addresses, and any other pertinent information. Provide opportunities for appropriate training and orientation of volunteers prior to assigning them to a particular task or certain department of the Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center or Family Services. Synchronize activities with managers when necessary. Seasonal responsibility of overseeing the Christmas Kettle effort at the Kroc center to include: Hiring, supervising, training, and scheduling bell ringers and drivers. Generate letters and visit participating stores to build relationships and develop positive, on-going partnerships. Manage on-boarding process of new hire paperwork for volunteers. Set up and assemble kettles and stands. Seek out volunteers and service clubs for multiple location coverage as part of a year-long volunteer engagement campaign. Assist with scheduling, drop off, and pick up routes for staff, kettles, and stands. Regularly review (with supervisor) kettle reports and identify employee to cost ratios, determining appropriate fit for employee/volunteer placement. Trouble shoot staff/volunteer/site issues. Collect stands at season end. Generate timely thank you letters to volunteers, store managers, and kettle donors. Prepare end of season brief. Participate in seasonal day camps: Overnight camps (Camp Del Oro). Vacation Bible Study Lead Chapel service.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Must be 21 years of age or older. Proficiency in current Microsoft software programs preferred. Maintain confidentiality. Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Bi-lingual (Spanish / English) preferred. Possess strong interpersonal skills. Willingness to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstance. Must project an upbeat, energetic, positive, and congenial demeanor. Ability to prioritize work, multi-task simultaneous projects, and work well under pressure. Comply with The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and support the mission of The Salvation Army.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check to include a DOJ Livescan Fingerprint check. Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis Physical mobility to grasp, push, pull objects, and/or reach overhead. Ability to operate a telephone. Able to lift up to 25 lbs. Use of auditory and visual senses to communicate. Must have the ability to operate a telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
