Volunteer - Nature Teen South Platte Park

 

Volunteering is an incredibly rewarding way to give back to the community and a way to spend your time enriching the lives of others. South Platte Park Nature Teens participate in program assistance and events for a minimum of 50 hours during the summer months. Assignments include program assistance, group management, working with children, handling and sanitizing equipment and working with staff to ensure positive nature experiences for participants.

Our Ideal Candidate

Must be fourteen (14) years old, depending on the specialty area. Familiar with or a strong interest in nature, interpretation, or environmental education is preferred. Will be reliable and patient with children. Has the ability to handle small animals, including aquatic animals, non-venomous snakes, insects and spiders, or willingness to learn. Has the ability to be outside for large portions of the day in weather conditions ranging from mild to extreme. Activities include hiking, canoeing, standing in moving or still water. Has the ability to hike, stand, sit, paddle and kneel for up to three (3) hours with breaks. Has the ability to learn and demonstrate maintenance and proper use of program equipment and supplies. Will successfully and productively work without immediate supervision within established guidelines set by staff. Has the ability to interact tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately with the public and staff.

Our mission is to foster healthy living through stewardship of the environment, parks, trails, and open space by providing recreational services and programs.

We serve residents in Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Centennial west of I-25, Littleton, Lone Tree and Sheridan and unincorporated portions of Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. We operate four full-service recreation centers, golf courses, outdoor pools and restaurants, two ice centers and miniature golf courses, a botanical garden event center, a BMX track, a sports dome, batting cages, an entertainment center, a hotel and a nature center. In addition, we maintain nearly 3,800 acres of developed and open space land, including 119 multi-purpose athletic fields, more than 100 parks, nearly 80 miles of trails, 60 playgrounds, 56 tennis courts, and the 880-acre South Platte Park.
