The Role: 

Skillz is looking for a VP of legal to join the senior leadership team and help build, manage, and lead the legal team at a company that is changing the world of esports and mobile gaming. As head of the department for an award-winning, newly public company, you will be responsible for effectively scaling the company’s legal function, and you will work cross-functionally to play a central role in guiding Skillz on a broad range of domestic and global legal matters as establish a new industry. This role will report to the CEO and requires a broad understanding of the legal function typical for a large multinational business's most senior legal executive.

What You Will Do: 

Oversee the entire internal legal function, including strategy and execution for employee relations, contracts, public policy, securities, IP, and litigation Staff and oversee a team of top-tier talent Manage and own the department’s P&L Develop, implement, and manage processes to protect the industry from fraud Act as internal securities law and corporate governance subject matter expert and advise executive members accordingly

Professional Qualifications:

J.D. degree and active bar membership. 8-10 years of legal experience, including significant litigation in gaming or tech. 5 years experience working as in-house Counsel with a public company Strong knowledge of gaming laws, IP, and regulatory compliance. Proven track record in developing and executing litigation strategies. Leadership experience in managing legal teams and cross-functional collaboration. Excellent communication, negotiation, and risk management skills. Strategic thinker with technology and industry awareness. Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with legal trends. Skillz offers competitive compensation packages with a salary,and restricted stock grants. Generous company-paid benefits, time-off, leave, 401k match, etc. Check out our career page for more information. Total compensation starts at $374,000. Actual pay will depend on varying circumstances, including leveling, experience, and location.
