VP Cancer Service Line
Tufts Medicine Cancer Service Line’s mission is to develop integrated patient care, research, and educational programs that support disease specific preventative, diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive services for all patients it serves. Services are delivered enterprise-wide in a manner that leverages the uniqueness of our academic-based and community-oriented cultures in care delivery. Care delivery at the academic medical center, community hospitals, and the Tufts Medicine Integrated Network ambulatory locations will be aligned and governed by a service line governance council that is led by an administrative and physician executive dyad leadership model. We maintain national accreditations with the American College of Surgeons – Commission on Cancer (CoC) and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), Foundation for the Accreditation for Cellular Therapy (FACT), and American College of Radiology (ACR). The Neely Center for Cancer Clinical Research provides the clinical trials infrastructure for the cancer programs and clinicians, maintaining a large portfolio of cooperative, industry, and investigator-initiated cancer clinical trials, with robust protocol review monitoring and IRB processes. We maintain reputable graduate medical education training programs across cancer specialties, Hematology and Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Sub-specialties, Gynecologic Oncology, Pathology, Radiology and others. Cancer leaders across Tufts Medicine partner with the Tufts Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, the Tufts University School of Medicine, the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Tufts Medicine is comprised of the following clinical entities: + Tufts Medicine Professional Group (TMPG) + Tufts Medicine Integrated Network (TMIN) + Tufts Medical Center + Lowell General Hospital + MelroseWakefield Hospital, Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford + Tufts Care at Home Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer for TM (or designee), the Vice President, Cancer Service Line, will have overall system administrative responsibility for the successful development, implementation and alignment of strategy, operational and programmatic goals for Cancer Services. S/he will work in a dyad leadership structure with a physician executive to participate in all cancer service line related leadership team meetings; work with the relevant Department Chairs, Division Chiefs, Presidents, CMOs and CNOs, and an array of leaders at the entities to leverage and scale the assets of the organization in order to meet the service line imperatives. **Qualifications:** 1. Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or any related field. 2. Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in program development and general administration a complex and integrated health care system. 3. Demonstrated track record of success in creating an environment that facilitates outstanding workforce and patient experience. **Duties and Responsibilities** **:** 1. Provides executive administrative leadership for the Cancer Service Line Steering Committee, which serves as the governing body of the Cancer Service Line across Tufts Medicine. . 2. Leads the development of a coordinated and aligned regional strategy, growth of the service line, as well as the integration of programs across all Tufts Medical (TM) entities to include: Tufts Medical Center, Lowell General Hospital, Melrose Wakefield Hospital, Care at Home and Hospice, and the related cancer specialty practices of Hematology/Oncology and Radiation Oncology that are within the TM Physician Organization(s). 3. Leads the array of clinical operations to support all aspects of patient care within the Cancer Service Line, including promoting patient engagement and ensuring a consistently outstanding experience for patients. 4. Works with the Cancer Physician Executive and other physician leaders to develop and oversee cancer quality and performance improvement programs and their integration across the system. 5. Develop, strengthen and scale the culture of disease-based program planning within clinical operations. 6. Using benchmarking and relevant market data, develops, advances and deploys appropriate dashboard and other management tools across all practices within Cancer Services. 7. Leads and influences the integration of cancer outpatient practices across all TM locations to ensure facilitation of disease-based program planning and optimization of local care close to home. 8. Advances the regional Cancer Service Line affiliations with private practice cancer specialty physicians with creative forms of physician engagement across disease lines or otherwise. 9. Oversees, ensures and optimizes appropriate Cancer Registry reporting and data analysis. 10. Works with TM Decision Support to develop and track progress of comprehensive Cancer Service Line business plan(s) – updated annually in accordance with the TM budget process. 11. Participates in system supply chain initiatives to manage the introduction of new technologies and devices in a fiscally responsible manner, balancing the need to advance clinical quality, market position and financial performance. 12. Serves as key administrative representative for the Marketing Department to implement marketing campaigns, community outreach and other events specifically designed to enhance reputation and build utilization of Cancer Center and related services and to the Development Department to grow philanthropic gifts. **Skills & Abilities:** 1. Strong analytical skills, specifically with business and functional requirements of staff development. 7. Negotiation skills. Thoughtful, politically astute, and strong diplomatic skills. 8. Ability to work in a highly matrixed structure and have the professional presence to make recommendations to senior leadership. 9. Demonstrated organizational leadership skills 10. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggle competing priorities and meet concurrent deadlines. **Physical Requirements** **:** 1. Professional office environment with typical office requirements such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc. 2. This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending / descending stairs and operating office equipment. 3. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate and exchange information. 4. Able to see and read computer displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers and symbols. 5. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
