VP/Director of Finance
Description Job Summary Our client is seeking a dynamic and seasoned Vice President & Controller to lead the financial operations of our organization within the equipment leasing industry. This position requires you to be in the office 4 days a week and 1 day from., they are located in Bergen County, NJ. This critical leadership role will focus on managing financial reporting, implementing effective controls, and driving strategic financial initiatives. The ideal candidate will excel in overseeing accounting processes, structuring lease transactions, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry-specific standards. As a key advisor to the CFO and executive team, the VP & Controller will be instrumental in supporting the company’s growth and financial stability. Key Responsibilities + Financial Leadership & Reporting + Oversee all financial reporting processes, ensuring strict compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and relevant tax regulations. + Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports. + Ensure the timely and accurate filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, incorporating compliance with industry-specific regulations. + Accounting Operations & Policies + Establish and maintain robust accounting policies and procedures with a strong focus on internal controls and risk mitigation. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., commercial, legal, operations) to structure lease transactions while assessing their financial and tax implications. + Maintain compliance with all lease accounting standards and guidelines applicable to the equipment leasing industry. + Strategic Partner to the Executive Team + Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the CFO and the executive team to drive business objectives. + Support strategic initiatives, including business unit startups, acquisitions, and system integrations within a private equity-backed environment. + Team Development and Stakeholder Relations + Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team through effective training and performance management. + Cultivate and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax advisors, legal counsel, and regulatory bodies. + Audit and Compliance Oversight + Manage internal and external audits while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and industry-specific requirements. + Continuously monitor and enhance internal control frameworks to guarantee operational accuracy and data integrity. Requirements Qualifications Education & Experience + A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification required. + 10+ years of progressive experience in financial accounting, with at least five years in a senior leadership capacity, preferably within the equipment leasing or finance industry. + Experience working in private equity-backed companies and familiarity with startup operations and acquisition accounting. Technical Skills + Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP, IFRS, tax regulations, and lease accounting standards. + Expertise in lease accounting systems and management tools for asset portfolios. + Proven track record in managing financial performance and providing strategic insights to leadership. Leadership & Interpersonal Skills + Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire high-performing teams. + Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with diverse teams and external stakeholders. + Strong capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, navigating complexity with precision and attention to detail. Additional Expertise + Comprehensive understanding of internal controls, financial compliance, and risk management processes. + Knowledge of business unit integrations, especially relating to accounting systems during acquisitions or startups.
