 The Enterprise Privacy Center of Excellence is a newly formed team within the Enterprise Digital and Data Solutions (EDDS) organization focused on developing a centralized, first line of defense privacy strategy and program execution approach. The EDDS mission is to create customer-centric digital experiences and drive enterprise value powered by unified, integrated solutions and scale of expertise.  EDDS focuses on shaping enterprise outcomes for growth, improving satisfaction with digital experiences, creating scale and efficiency, while building trust for the data, processes, products and services we develop.

The American Express Privacy Strategy & Program Management Vice President will establish and maintain the center of excellence responsible for mitigating privacy risk through policies, privacy by design practices and training.  As a first line of defense function, the Privacy Center of Excellence will provide end to end program management across business units to facilitate policy adoption, control framework execution and ongoing support of privacy activities, in collaboration with the chief privacy officer.  

Key Responsibilities:

Support the development, coordination and implementation of American Express’ global privacy program, combining thought leadership with practical implementation Ensure the company’s privacy risk remains appropriately assessed, risk thresholds are monitored across markets and business units, in alignment with determined risk tolerance.  Advise on privacy risk strategies and procedures to align with changes in the business environment and regulatory landscape, and frequently review Collaborate with Enterprise Data Governance team to identify synergies and align roadmaps to core data management processes Provide privacy subject matter expertise, incorporating learnings and changes into the wider privacy program. Work with and influence diverse, cross-functional teams in complex and rapidly changing environments to integrate policy/standard requirements. Design and implement centralized control approach and framework that can be executed upon by accountable business units. Problem solve to enable business objectives while thinking through privacy as a complex risk discipline with significant impact on the reputation of the organization.

 Minimum Qualifications

10+ years of demonstrated excellence in leading global privacy programs for regulated industries with global digital products and services. Proven ability to develop a comprehensive global Privacy Strategy, leveraging privacy by design and privacy engineering concepts Deep understanding of privacy risks with experience rationalizing global legal requirements in key regulations such as GDPR and CCPA Extensive working knowledge of privacy risk identification, assessment and control management frameworks Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Excellent relationship building skills to partner effectively across diverse, cross-functional teams in complex and rapidly changing environments, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.  Experience leading, engaging and motivating hardworking and diverse teams through complexities to deliver results. Confidence in decision-making in complex & ambiguous situations; comfortable troubleshooting and aligning conflicting interests to effectively manage stakeholders Ability to handle multiple work streams and ad-hoc tasks simultaneously.

·       Ability to ask the “right” questions without having extensive knowledge in a particular business area.

 Preferred Qualifications

Privacy certification (CIPP/US, CIPM) preferred. Experience in any of the following domains would be beneficial (though not necessary): data subject rights, purpose limitation, data minimization, retention and deletion requirements.

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
