Warehouse Assistant

Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Deming, New Mexico, Luna Energy operates a natural gas fired combined cycle generating plant with a substantial 570 MW capacity. The facility features two GE 7FA+e combustion turbines, emissions control technology such as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, and dry low-nitrogen oxide gas turbine combustion. Opportunity Summary

The Warehouse Assistant will play a crucial role in managing the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment, ensuring efficient inventory control and documentation. This position involves coordinating with various departments to support plant operations, including maintaining accurate records, overseeing waste disposal, and assisting with plant outages. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a dynamic team environment.

Primary Functions

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all fixed assets and received materials, ensuring proper documentation, and obtaining all required signatures for accountability. Receive, inspect, store, and issue items, materials, and equipment ordered via purchase orders or provided by contractors, verifying compliance with specifications. Conduct thorough inspections of received items to ensure quality and accuracy, documenting discrepancies, and properly organizing materials for storage or use. Implement and manage purchasing and inventory control programs and procedures to ensure timely availability of materials and minimize waste or shortages. Collaborate with supervisors and department leads to identify and assign personnel for repair and maintenance tasks, using Maximo to track inventory and work orders efficiently. Coordinate with plant supervision to identify and follow regulatory guidelines for the proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, ensuring environmental compliance. Assist with the detailed planning, research, and receiving of materials and resources required for successful plant outages, ensuring smooth operations. Provide daily operational support to the warehouse specialist, including inventory counts, material handling, and resolving logistical issues as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Administrative Supervisor or Plant Manager, contributing to overall plant operations and organizational goals.

Working Relationships

The Warehouse Assistant reports to the Maintenance Manager and coordinates with all plant personnel relative to the purchasing process and inventory control. Work closely with all personnel to facilitate efficient parts and maintenance planning.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing, routinely lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in confined spaces. Protective equipment must be worn during certain tasks, such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective equipment. Work with hazardous materials may be required, and the ability to wear various types of respirators is essential. Extensive smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.  

Work Schedule

This position offers a Monday to Friday work schedule, during regular dayshift hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

The initial starting compensation will range from $24 to $28 per hour and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, providing the ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the assigned area. An Associate's Degree in a technical field is highly desirable. Experience in warehouse operations, including shipping, receiving, and inventory control, to support efficient plant operations. Proficiency in computerized accounting and inventory control systems, such as Maximo or SAP, for accurate tracking and reporting. General accounting experience, including purchase orders, budgeting, and cost tracking, is desirable to support procurement and inventory functions. Background in a mechanical trade, such as equipment repair, to assist with technical aspects of plant operations. Familiarity with piping and instrumentation schematics and process controls to assist in outage planning and specialized material procurement. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and team members for smooth operations. Attention to detail and adaptability to manage tasks, maintain accuracy, and adjust to changing needs. Proven ability to build relationships and work effectively both individually and in teams to achieve organizational goals. Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license and maintain it in good standing at all times.
