Warehouse Group Leader - 3rd Shift

Purpose Statement

The Warehouse Group/Team Leader will accomplish the receiving and storage of all materials and finished goods under the responsibility of the Distribution Department of the Brunswick plant by performing certain assigned tasks in receiving, removing, and storing materials or finished goods from trucks or plant, staging materials for plant or finished goods for shipping, and shipping finished goods.  By instruction of the Distribution Team Coordinator, assigns, directs, and follows up the work of other team members on assigned shift.  Contribute to the profit and well-being of the Company by performing tasks in a safe, efficient, quality-conscious, and cost-conscious manner and by working in a cooperative manner with his/her Team Coordinator and co-workers.  This is a 3rd Shift role.

Key Accountabilities and Outcomes

Assigns, directs, and follows up the work of other team members on assigned shift.  Depending on assigned shift, performs specific tasks including, but not limited to:
•    receiving daily inbound and outbound truck schedules and other work activities needed, and, with the Team Leader, determining work assignments for team members
•    receiving production schedule needs from the plant and staging frozen materials as required
•    receiving next-day shipping needs and pre-staging loads as required
•    assigning and coordinating work activities of the team
•    orienting and/or training other team members and assisting team members in problem-solving 
•    following up on work activities to assure completion and reporting on daily work completion to Team Leader
•    rearranging work assignments as required by truck schedule changes, production changes, work requirements or other issues
•    assuring an acceptable level of housekeeping in the Warehouse / Shipping areas during and at the end of the shift
•    receiving daily set up instructions, pulling required ingredients and finished goods from storage, and taking it to the production line or dock door staging area needing it
•    performing daily routine safety and operating inspection of the fork truck or pallet jack which he/she will be using, recording condition on appropriate form, recognizing problems and reporting to the maintenance technician
•    removing pallets of materials from trucks with a fork truck
•    recording materials received or finished goods shipped on the daily tally sheets
•    using the fork truck to move the materials or finished goods to the proper storage location, including sliding the pallet into a rack.  Must be able to learn the bay storage system, how to stack, and use the system accurately to assure proper inventory count and location of materials or finished goods for future retrieval
•    restacking pallets if they become unbalanced or if product or materials fall off; these weigh from 10 to 60 pounds; this is not the norm in the work shift, occurring only if there is a problem with the pallet load; the person can also request help from co-workers to lift the heaviest boxes
•    accurately completing tally sheets and turning them in timely
•    accurately checking and signing off on team time sheets and turning them in timely
•    must be acceptable to shift change as needed for coverage
•    sweeping debris on the floor into small piles, picking it up with a dustpan, and placing it in the proper waste container
•    disposing of paper, plastic or other packaging material into the proper trash container pushing trash carts to proper disposal area
•    use of a rubber squeegee to push water down drains
•    pushing a floor scrubbing machine to clean and dry floors
•    dusting surfaces, painting, and doing other similar housekeeping/maintenance tasks
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

The person performing these tasks will spend most of the working shift sitting on fork trucks or standing on riding pallet jacks, traveling from the various freezers which are at zero to minus 20 degrees F., through the loading dock area which is normally kept at 50 degrees F., to and from the plant which is ambient temperature. Employees are provided with insulated freezer coveralls and insulated boots which are required to be worn.  The floors, including the loading dock, are concrete.  To load or unload a truck he/she will lift a movable dock leveler between the dock and the trailer floor; this leveler is metal and can weigh up to 75 pounds.  

 

Minimum lifting requirement is 25 pounds, from approximately 6 inches off the ground to up to shoulder height.  Maximum lifting requirement is up to 65 pounds over the same distance and occasionally above shoulder height, with assistance (thus the employee must be able to lift at least 35 pounds alone). 

 

1.    The person performing this job physically must be able to drive a "sit-down" fork truck, use a standing pallet jack, and have excellent vision and depth perception to avoid injuries to self and others and damage to materials.
2.    Applies all safe work practices associated with these tasks.  Works in a safe manner at all times
3.    Applies all GMPs requirements, both personal hygiene and housekeeping, associated with these tasks.  Keeps work area clean at all times, in line with plant procedures on housekeeping, wastewater, and solids management.
4.    Applies all product safety and quality requirements associated with the process at assigned positions.
5.    Identifies problems at his/her assigned work tasks on an on-going basis and determines if solution is within his/her training and knowledge; if so, corrects problem; if not or if not sure, communicates to appropriate person for solution.
6.    Develops and maintains a good working relationship with Distribution Team Coordinator and other managers, team members, and other co-workers.  Resolves problems and conflicts in an acceptable manner that shows respect for the other person(s).
7.    Cooperates and shows commitment to team goals and efforts; attends team meetings and participates in them to the best of his/her ability.
8.    Works to understand (primarily via the gainsharing plan, team meetings, and general communications) overall impact of his/her job on team productivity and plant profitability; maintains high level of personal productivity and contributes suggestions for work process improvements to Distribution Team Coordinator or at team                   meetings.
9.    Follows plant rules and policies and Company code of ethics in performing job.
