The Worldwide Aviation Support Services (WASS) program, an AAR business, headquartered in Rockledge, FL, provides global, world-class expeditionary and conventional aviation solutions to the US Department of State Air Wing.
**SUMMARY**
Provide assistance to the Safety Manager in the development, operation, and continuous improvement of the safety management system, SMS. Assist the Safety Manager in monitoring the effectiveness of SMS, initiate corrective actions when necessary and provide inputs as directed for safety reports on SMS performance on a periodic basis.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
+ Assist in planning and execution of FW flight assignments as directed by the aircraft PIC.
+ Complete FW aircraft, DHC-8 initial or recurrent qualification training as required.
+ Travel to Iraq to complete in-country DHC-8 PI qualification training and undertake rotational foreign service as a Flight Safety Officer
+ Ensure proper flight equipment is aboard. - Accomplish the aircraft preflight inspection and preparation.
+ Ensure proper loading, distribution, and security of cargo and passengers.
+ Confirm the aircraft weight and balance is within prescribed limits.
+ Assist in tracking and logging of aircraft flight time and the filing and closing of flight plans and preparation of flight and duty time records.
+ Assist PIC in ensuring passenger safety and assuring ramp security is maintained while passengers are boarding or disembarking.
+ Accept responsibility for functions as delegated by the aircraft PIC.
+ Identify safety hazards, risks, and promote the reduction or elimination of potentially hazardous conditions that may lead to accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and safety-related financial losses.
+ Monitor reports and investigate all aircraft accidents/incidents to determine the cause of the accident and formulate recommendations to help prevent similar mishaps in the future.
+ Detailed data entry of technical information necessary in assisting in the monitoring of mishap reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
+ Provide written reports which are clear, concise, and meaningful for all safety matters.
+ Assist in maintaining accident and incident records, files, and reports.
+ Process Safety Hazard Reports including investigating the hazard and ensuring mitigations are in place.

Qualifications:
**Required**
+ High school diploma or GED
+ FAA commercial and Instrument Airman's Certificate Airplane Multi-Engine Land and Instrument.
+ FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit
+ Current FAA Class II Medical certificate
+ Successful completion of FAA Type Rating in the DHC-8 FW is required before permanent assignment.
+ Required Completion of a Department of Defense, US Military Safety Officer Training, ground or aviation, or equivalent FAA, NTSB or accredited university training containing at least three of the following Aviation Law, Human Factors, Aviation Safety Program Management, Risk Mitigation, Aircraft Accident Investigators courses.
+ 1,500 total fixed or rotary wing flight hours including 500 hours of turbine time.
+ Minimum 250 hours multi-engine pilot-in-command, PIC time.
+ Minimum of 3 years direct experience participating in a ground and or aviation safety program.
+ Qualification in assigned aircraft DHC-8 before or incident to assignment.
+ Experience in dealing with safety and environmental laws, rules and regulations is required.
+ Experience in risk management and hazard mitigation.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint Project, and Visio.
+ Position requires a U.S. DoD security clearance.
**Preferred**
+ Completion of DOD Aviation Safety Officers Course
+ Prior military pilot and or pilot support on the DoS INLA program.
+ FAA CFI-CFII-MEI.
+ FAA ATP rating.
+ Previous military FW flight training qualification of civilian equivalent.
+ Qualification in the DHC-8.
