What You'll Do The Waste Package Certifier reports to the Waste Certification Manager/Official (WCO). Certifies that waste packages have been prepared, filled, closed and secured per Y-12 procedures, regulatory requirements, DOE requirements, and disposal facility acceptance criteria. Supports the Y-12 WCO and Alternate WCOs as needed. Responsible for ensuring waste placed in Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved packages comply with Y-12 waste management procedures, DOE orders, regulatory (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, applicable Codes of Federal Regulations, DOT) requirements and disposal facility acceptance criteria. Must be able to identify prohibited items and segregate from acceptable items. Must ensure waste has been properly characterized, profiled and prepared, prior to packaging. Applicant must complete appropriate paperwork to document package certification. Responsible for interfacing with waste generators, waste engineers, and alternate waste certification officials to ensure all facets of waste packaging are addressed. OR six or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy education and years-of-experience requirements for this posting. Preferred Job Requirements Background applying Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, polychlorinated biphenyls, Toxic Substances Control Act, asbestos, Department of Transportation regulations and DOE orders to the management of hazardous and radiological waste. Must be able to work outside during all seasons and work overtime as required. Wearing of respiratory protection will be required on occasion. Experience verifying appropriate packaging for waste destined for the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) and the Environmental and Waste Management Facility (EMWMF) or participating in a waste certification program is preferred. Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
