Job Overview Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage. Work Model: Onsite Responsibilities Essential Duties & Job Functions: Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, and test results to determine load requirements. Starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes. Maintains logs of operations and records meter and gas readings. Gives direction to the Water/Wastewater Operator Assistant in performing routine operations and maintenance. May collect sewage samples using dipper or bottle; and, conduct laboratory tests using equipment such as a colorometer. May be required to respond to emergency call-outs as requested by management. Required to maintain a clean work area and work environment. Job Requirements Mandatory: High School graduate or equivalent. Must possess a Grade III certificate for Sewage Treatment Plant Operations and possess a Grade 3 or higher Water Distribution License in accordance with the most current Nevada Administrative Code (NAC), Chapter 445, and Certification of Operators of Public Water Systems. Incumbent shall have completed training as specified in NAVFAC MIL-HDBK 1164; and, they shall possess sufficient computer knowledge and experience to operate the SBR computer program. Must have a minimum of two years experience in this or a closely related field. Possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License. Possess an OSHA 10 card or have the ability to get one within the first 90 days of employment. Employee to furnish own hand tools. Must be able to comprehend, read, speak and write proficiently in the English language. Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner in diversified situations.
