Wastewater Plant Mechanic Sr.
Overview ***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP*** An employee In the position of Wastewater Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled duties pertaining to the operation of the treatment plant and collection system, must have a knowledge of the complicated mechanical principles Involved In many treatment mechanisms and a practical knowledge of electrical motors, circuitry and controls Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Operate the following Wastewater department vehicles and equipment in a safe and productive manner: Pickup truck, dump truck, flushing truck, tractors, sewer tap machine, sewer router machine, chain saw, pipe cutter, Jackhammer, and various other equipment. Perform maintenance on collection system Including, but not limited to: Flush manhole sections. Inspect and maintain pump stations, meter stations and grinder pumps. Perform routine building and grounds maintenance. Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on all plant equipment and instrumentation. Remove, repair and replace equipment as directed. Assemble and maintain instrumentation and process equipment. Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and collection system equipment. Clean and lubricate pumps, motors and other plant equipment, Maintain all chart, checklists and maintenance records, as required. Maintain daily logs and record meter and gauge readings. Maintain Inventory and request supplies. Observe variations in operating conditions throughout system and recommend corrective actions as required. Collect and Interpret necessary operating data, Assist Plant Operator in controlling operations of Treatment Processes. Assist in training activities. Install water meters on system customers as required. Load or assist in loading sludge. Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. High School Diploma or G.E.D. Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) Must be a U.S. Citizen A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and host nation Driver’s License, is required. Experience: Two years experience In waste water plant equipment maintenance and repair. Skills: Ability to learn the operation of the treatment plant, collection system and equipment. Ability to operate vehicles and equipment In a safe manner. Knowledge of safety procedures In sewer line and plant operations and maintenance. Ability to maintain and evaluate maintenance records. Ability to understand and follow oral, written and diagrammatic instructions. Ability to establish and maintain communications with supervisors and co-workers. Ability to work independently without constant supervision. Ability to learn and perform new tasks and show initiative to perform these tasks without direct supervision Working Conditions: Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes.. The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level. The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. Physical Requirements: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
