Responsible for operating sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control flow and processing of sewage. Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of sewage. Shall operate, maintain, and repair potable and fire water distribution systems including wells, reservoirs, booster stations, storage tanks, pump stations, cathodic protection units, chlorinating units, surge tanks, hydrants, sprinkler systems, and related distribution infrastructure. Position is located on Ascension Island. Responsibilities Major Job Activities: + This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. + Shall identify, isolate, record, and correct cross-connections and other potential sources of potable-water distribution-system contamination + Shall conduct water flow tests after any repairs to the water distribution grid. + Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings. + Requires a working knowledge of operating systems and ability to adjust controls to ensure operating efficiencies. + Responsible for set/up, dismantle and performing preventive maintenance checks and services for Wastewater Treatment systems. + Performs operations, preventive maintenance, and repairs of the wastewater treatment systems/units + Ensures that all water lines are marked as potable or non- potable, maintained separately, and not interconnected. + Uses bacteriological test to sample the water after repair to certify that water sampled is free of coliform bacteria contamination with zero discrepancies allowed. + Performs other duties as assigned Material & Equipment Directly Used: + Tools of the trade, special equipment, and work materials Working Environment: + The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. + The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. + The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise level. + Must be capable of working in tropical weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 80 degrees Fahrenheit. + Indoor and/or outdoor environment with varied conditions. + Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. Physical Activities: + Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. + Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. + Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: + Possess a valid driver’s license from country of origin. Education / Certifications: + High school diploma or equivalent. + Certified on water systems management, including backflow prevention, and trained and qualified to inspect and test backflow prevention devices.
