Job Description Summary:

The primary role of the Maintenance Tech – Expert (MT-Expert): Wastewater is to provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, SES Manager, TCCC Environmental partners, Maintenance, Engineering and others in support of improved equipment safety, reliability, environmental compliance and productivity.

The MT – Expert is recognized as the Subject Matter Expert within the Plant for Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) operation, equipment maintenance and maintaining compliance with the wastewater discharge Permits. The Expert is a self-initiator capable of recognizing deteriorating asset/process performance trends, craft appropriate interventions and lead effort to restore normal operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintains proficiency with regards to WWTP operation and the associated environmental laws by possessing and maintaining the Florida Class B Wastewater license.Maintains the technical accuracy of subject matter pertaining to his/her area(s) of expertise. The subject matter may be technical reference materials used by maintenance and/or operations in the performance of their duties or used in the development of maintenance instructions and training curriculum.Leads team-based approach to troubleshooting complex and chronic equipment/process performance issues. He/she has demonstrated ability to summarize the specific deviations from normal operation so that the average mechanic and/or operator can envision the issues and participate in the root cause analysis and repair effort.Develops training curriculum and course materials utilizing computer-based software, to include the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). He/she also provides input to developing/improving the job qualification documents and process.Conducts research of technical manuals and reviews courseware products to assess update requirements and generates comments for use by Management.Interfaces with TCCC Environmental Engineers, City Public Works Department (as it pertains to the monitoring and notifications concerning wastewater discharge to the city), Maintenance, Operations, Engineering and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to develop/improve operations, maintenance & repair routines/tasks, training curriculum, and generate next steps in support of complex troubleshooting efforts. He/she also represents the Plant when supporting OEM or contractor asset/system capital or asset modification improvement effortsInterprets instructions and strategies for asset/system performance improvement strategies as directed by Corporate or OEM agencies and presents interpretation of and possible Plant implementation strategies to Management.Provides technical knowledge and skills-based training to others within their area of expertise. The MT-Expert also recommends others to Management as qualified in a technical area, when required.Identifies, champions and executes all aspects of Continuous Improvement initiatives.Maintains proficiency at and champions all maintenance department support operations, such as use of the CMMS, procurement of parts, safety, and the maintenance work order process.

Measurement of Position Performance

Ensure wastewater discharge to the city meets the Permitted limits for all regulated parameters.Demonstrated skills and knowledge of assigned tasks. Maintains Class B License.Ability to do the work of the MT-Expert position without more than normal supervision.Ability to lead team-based troubleshooting of complex, chronic issues to successful resolution.Quantity and quality of completed training curriculum, single-point-lessons, preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, and overall observed improved skills and knowledge of maintenance and operations associates.Implementation of, or significant support in the implementation of, corporate directives for the improvement of product quality, safety, or new product launches.Comprehensive knowledge of the operation, capabilities, and limitations of utilities equipment and processes. Knowledge of mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems, etc.

Position Goals

Establish/maintain required WWTP performance files as directed by Permit or TCCC Environmental and Plant management.To ensure WWTP mechanical systems are maintained in a safe and as-new condition.Promote and provide a safe work environment for all assigned personnel in the work area.Ensure that assigned WWTP Operators are provided adequate training to meet the minimum requirement to safety operate the WWTP.To ensure the maintenance function is given the opportunity to provide production with the service it requires.

Relationships

Reports to the Facilities Maintenance Manager.Works closely with SES Manager.Works closely with WWTP Operators.Works closely with City Public Works Department (as required to meet the operating Permit).Supports Engineering with capital improvement projects.Maintains good working relationships with other organizational units in the plant.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Meet all basic plant employment criteria, to include a good attendance record.Currently meets all skills and knowledge requirements of the Wastewater Treatment Operator Level III (Specialist).Must possess Florida Class B License.Has 7 years’ experience in WWTP operation or equivalent vocational and technical training.Possesses Aerobic and Anaerobic treatment experience.Ability to work on multiple levels, such as catwalks, ladders, etc. and ability to work in extreme temperaturesMust have strong problem solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under stressful situationsMust be able to work flexible shift schedules up to 12-hour shifts as determined by business needMust be able to use a computer and associated software programsPerform all tasks in a safe manner to ensure achievement of Quality, Service and Cost objectives.

Pay Range:

$89,107 - $108,909
