Job Title: Water Asset Technician Job Description The Water Asset Technician will be responsible for inspecting water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage using acoustic sensors and notifying the project manager of potential issues. This role involves working closely with a project manager, traveling to various job sites, and using phone apps for mapping. The technician will conduct non-revenue water recovery and control services, including leak detection, deployment of acoustic noise loggers, and flow and pressure data recovery. Additionally, the technician will complete all required documentation, ensure safe working methods are applied, and facilitate all leak detection work requirements. Responsibilities + Inspect water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage. + Use acoustic sensors to listen for leaks and notify the project manager of potential issues. + Work alongside a project manager and travel to various job sites. + Utilize phone apps for mapping and work outside in various weather conditions. + Conduct non-revenue water recovery and control services, including leak detection and deployment of acoustic noise loggers. + Complete job forms, timesheets, and other required documentation. + Ensure safe working methods are applied and participate in weekly safety meetings. + Read, interpret, and measure Map/GIS information. + Facilitate all leak detection work requirements and advise on night work as needed. + Find field solutions for the benefit of the customer and the Water Asset Management division. + Attend or conduct site meetings with clients as needed. + Maintain and upkeep equipment related to specific projects and produce quarterly stock checks. Essential Skills + Experience with GIS, survey, and blueprint reading. + Knowledge of water systems and water utility management. + Proficiency in leak detection, meter reading software, and troubleshooting. + Strong documentation and safety procedure adherence. + Experience with mapping software and acoustic leak detection. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Degree in Environmental Science, GIS, Biology, Geology, or related field preferred. + High School diploma or GED required with at least one to two years of physically demanding job experience. + Experience with water distribution systems and acoustic leak detection is desirable but not required. + Capability to work outside regularly, including in extreme conditions. + Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day, frequently bend, and lift up to 20 lbs. + Experience in reading, interpreting, and measuring Map/GIS information preferred. + Flexible schedule to include travel and extended work hours. + Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal instruction. + Strong communication and customer service skills. + Safety-conscious mindset. + Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle. + Ability to pass a drug screen. + Willing to participate in a pre-employment screening Work Environment This position does not have an office in Illinois, so the individual will be assigned to the closest office, which is in Minneapolis. The technician will report to the project manager for day-to-day operations and training. The role involves extensive travel, with the candidate potentially being away for up to two weeks at a time, traveling to various states such as Florida, Michigan, and Texas. The candidate will work 8-hour days with the option to work 5 8-hour days or 4 10-hour days, as long as a minimum of 40 hours per week is met. The technician will receive a company vehicle and phone, and will use the phone for mapping and taking pictures. The long-term opportunities include transitioning to a more GIS-heavy position and working as a Project Manager. The dress code includes high boots, pants, and t-shirts, with PPE such as safety vests, sun protection, and bug spray provided. Water will be available on the trucks. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
