Job Title: Water Asset Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Water Asset Technician to inspect water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage. This role involves working alongside a Project Manager, utilizing phone apps for mapping, and conducting non-revenue water recovery and control services, including leak detection and acoustic noise logger deployment. The position also requires completing job forms, time sheets, and other documentation, ensuring safe working methods, and facilitating all leak detection work requirements.

ResponsibilitiesInspect water asset valves, hydrants, meters, and water meter boxes for leakage using acoustic sensors.Notify Project Manager of possible leaks.Travel to job sites and work alongside Project Manager.Use phone apps to map out project details while working outside in various elements, including heat.Conduct non-revenue water recovery and control services, including leak detection and acoustic noise logger deployment.Progress in the use of equipment supplied by the Water Asset Management division.Complete job forms, time sheets, and all required documentation.Ensure safe working methods and participate in weekly safety meetings.Read, interpret, and measure Map/GIS information.Facilitate all leak detection work requirements, including advising on night work as needed.Use initiative to find field solutions for the benefit of the customer and Water Asset Management division.Attend or conduct site meetings with clients as needed.Maintain equipment upkeep and produce quarterly stock checks.Essential SkillsExperience in Environmental Science, GIS, Biology, Geology, or related field preferred.High School diploma or GED required.At least one to two years of experience in physically demanding jobs.Experience working with Water Distribution Systems and/or Acoustic Leak Detection desirable but not required.Experience working outside on a regular basis, preferably in extreme conditions.Ability to walk up to 10 miles per day with frequent bending and lift up to 20 lbs.Experience in Map/GIS information reading, interpreting, and measuring preferred.Ability to work a flexible schedule, including travel and extended work hours.Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal instruction.Strong communication and customer service skills.Safety-conscious attitude.Valid driver's license.Ability to pass pre-employment screeningAbility to pass a drug screen.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in Surveying, Blueprint reading, and Water Utility systems.Knowledge of GIS, leak detection, meter reading software, troubleshooting, and safety procedures.Work Environment

This position will be based in Illinois, with the candidate working from home when not on-site. The role involves traveling to various locations, including Florida, Michigan, and Texas, with typical assignments lasting up to two weeks. The candidate will report to the job site daily, working either five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days, totaling a minimum of 40 hours per week. A company vehicle and phone will be provided. The dress code includes high boots, pants, and t-shirts, with safety vests, sun protection, and bug spray provided. Water is supplied on the trucks. Long-term opportunities include more GIS-focused roles and the potential to advance to a Project Manager position.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
