**Description:** **BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT** **Water Quality Inspector, B9** **Department of Water Management** **Water Supply Bureau** **Number of Positions: 1** **(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)** **Starting Salary: $44,640.00** **This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with** **AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Select your correct bargaining unit** **FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION** **Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on** **November 13, 2024.** **ESSENTIAL DUTIES** + Under supervision, collects and tests water samples for conformance to water purity standards. + Collects water samples from designated distribution system locations daily. + Uses various testing and monitoring equipment to perform chlorine residual, turbidity, and pH readings and tests and takes temperature of water at each collection point. + Conducts various surveys of water distribution system to ensure water quality for public consumption. + Utilizes chlorine residual recorders, and records and analyzes readings to inform supervisors of adverse conditions affecting water quality or sampling procedures. + Delivers samples to the Division of Water Quality for detailed chemical and bacteriological analyses. + Assists engineers in conducting raw water surveys and inspections of lake water. + Assists engineers in the testing of water in dead-end mains, public buildings and perimeter locations. + Maintains records of samples collected and tests performed. + Assists with data entry as needed. + Drives to field sites to collect specimen. + Tabulates and proofreads water quality data when assigned to the office. + Performs related duties as required. _Additional duties may be required for this position_ **Location:** Various **Days Off:** Various **Hours:** Various **Lunch:** 1-Hour **THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE** **Qualifications:** **MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** **:** High School Diploma or equivalence certificate (GED), plus one year of water quality inspection, control, monitoring, and/or sampling experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS** + Some lifting (up to thirty-five pounds) is required + Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time + Ability to occasionally climb staircases, ladders and/or step stools + Ability to open a hydrant **SELECTION REQUIREMENTS** **:** This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed bidders possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected in **seniority order** according to the collective bargaining agreement. The interviewed candidate possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected. **Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:** + Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. + Proficiency in operating a personal computer. + An associate’s degree or higher. + Previous work experience in a position inspecting water quality. + Proficiency in a position requiring the ability to prepare worksheets and maintain records. + Previous work experience performing field water tests. **APPLICATION EVALUATION:** Initial evaluation will be based on information provided on the application and the documents submitted.
