Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc—as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation’s clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

As the Supervisor of Site Services Water Treatment, you will need a thorough understanding of water and wastewater treatment operations, process engineering, maintenance strategies, and laboratory procedures. Your key responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and industry standards, while overseeing the efficient operation and maintenance of water treatment systems. Additionally, you will be tasked with fostering strong relationships with internal teams, external suppliers, and contractors, while prioritizing problem-solving and team-building to ensure effective collaboration and operational success. This role is located near Patagonia, Arizona. 

 

Other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Acts as plant Agent of the Company for assigned plant, ensuring treatment remains compliant with Federal, State and Local regulations. Responsible for overseeing treatment operations and equipment, operations team and coordinating with other departments, sections or outside entities. Responds to on call questions from operations team.

Supervises, instructs, and inspects work of the operation personnel to ensure compliance with permits, policies, procedures, regulatory agency, quality standards, and the proper performance of operational duties.

Plans, schedules, and supervises operational activities, procures necessary materials, assigns staff to a wide variety of operational projects and tasks.

Schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments, sections, contractors, consultants, state, and local agencies.

Develops operational procedures to assure effective and efficient operation of water and wastewater facilities.

Conducts sampling and performs routine laboratory analyses.

Coordinates ordering of and handles hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals during delivery, storage, and use.

Analyses and recommends improvements to existing operational practices and facilities, equipment, and operating systems.

Prepares work orders and other written request for maintenance.

Develops and maintains records, files, and databases relating to the water and wastewater facilities.

Analyses and makes recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the water and wastewater systems.

Maintains database information for process control, budgetary control, and flow records.

Reviews operational logs, field testing information, and laboratory data.

Evaluates, documents, and performs employee evaluations.

Assists in developing and the responsible monitoring of operations budgets.

Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.

Prepares, compiles, and delivers monthly reports.

Reviews the need for and supervises emergency response to water, or other related emergencies.

May be required to cover for shift operators as the need dictates.

Performs other duties and special assignments which may be outside the primary areas of employment.


ABOUT YOU 

Bachelor’s degree in Sanitary Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or related field; or any combination of training, education, and equivalent experience

5+ years of progressively responsible experience in water treatment and pumping station operations and maintenance

1+ years experience as supervisor

Strong understanding of the process, systems and equipment used in water treatment. Ability to recognize and diagnose cause and effect of process and system malfunctions 

Must possess a Grade I Water Treatment Operator certification from ADEQ, or equivalent certification from another state through reciprocity with Arizona by application date.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.

Ability to read and understand technical literature, blueprints, equipment operations, and maintenance manuals.

Capable of effectively supervising and working with others.

Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of State and Federal Regulatory requirements relating to water facilities and programs.

Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and points of view as part of a team.

Strong mathematical and analytical ability as part of process control calculations.

Ensure that all necessary chemicals, materials, supplies, and equipment are available to perform the functions of the section.

Ability to follow through on tasks and adapt to changing priorities, process conditions, and circumstance.

Experience with advanced computerized systems such as Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA).

Valid driver's license
