Water/Wastewater Engineer – Mid Level (Hybrid)

Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work as part of multidisciplinary project teams providing industrial and municipal clients with design engineering and related technical expertise for water and wastewater systems and treatment facilities. Industrial clients include those in the mining, fuels and/or natural gas, power generation, and manufacturing industries.

Responsibilities may include providing project management, performing alternatives analyses, completing engineering calculations and analyses, selecting equipment and components, writing technical reports, preparing design drawings and specifications, developing design details, preparing cost estimates and bid packages, and providing construction administration services. The work will also include management of projects and coordination with clients as well as opportunities for practice development, mentoring, and business development. The work may involve short-term, out-of-town assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering from an accredited university

At least 5 years of related work experience

Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain within one year

Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software

Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Willingness to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative

Demonstrated ability to develop sound solutions to complex problems

Demonstrated project organization and project management skills

Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:

10+ years of experience working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial workplace

Master’s degree in environmental or chemical engineering from an accredited university

Experience working directly with clients

Experience serving as engineer of record on project(s) from conceptual design through construction

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Duluth, Hibbing, or Minneapolis, Minnesota, offices.

Compensation:

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $75,000–$95,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a “no retained earnings” model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.

NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
