Watermain and Service Repair Worker Print (https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/toledooh/jobs/newprint/883639) Apply  Watermain and Service Repair Worker Salary $47,359.52 - $49,851.36 Annually Location Toledo, OH Job Type Full-Time Job Number 2024-00543 Department Public Utilities Division Water Distribution Opening Date 02/06/2025 Closing Date 2/12/2025 11:59 PM Eastern + Description + Benefits + Questions Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Watermain and Service Repair Worker will perform work of moderate difficulty in performing a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks involved in the repair and construction of watermain and service connections and the installation of services of various sizes; ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: + Breaks up pavement with air hammer + Digs and backfills ditches and excavations + Loads and unloads equipment of materials + Assists in lowering pipes and fittings into trenches and makes connection by bolting and caulking + Bores horizontal holes under streets and sidewalks for the placement of service connections + Assists in operating tapping machine to bore holes into watermain and completes service connections + Helps in making service line connections and in repairing various types of pipe + Measures, cuts, bends, straightens, flares, and attaches fittings on copper piping + Installs sleeves and compression fittings + Assists in coupling lead service pipes in the repair of lead service lines + Replaces and/or makes repair to leaking water hydrants, valves, and services + Tunnels under surface structure for the repair or replacement of watermains or connections + Operates air compressor, jack jammer, air tamper, pneumatic piercing tool, pumps, and related tools + Cleans up area where maintenance work has been performed + Patches holes in streets and places barricades and safety equipment around construction area + Cribs or reinforces holes or trenches as required + Drives truck in connection with work performed REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of: + Common tools, parts, methods, and procedures used for making service pipe connections and repairs to water lines and appurtenances to the water distribution system + General construction and excavation work over four feet (4') in depth + Hazard and safety precautions of the work Skill in: + Performing manual work under a variety of adverse weather and work conditions + Working in restricted or confined work areas + Understanding and carrying out work orders + Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others + Using hand and power tools Ability to: + Lift objects weighing up to approximately ninety (90) pounds + Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and work in confined spaces + Work with individuals of diverse backgrounds. + Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients. + Multi-task in a fast-paced environment. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS + Ability to read at the eight (8th) grade level + One (1) year of manual labor work experience which includes the use of hand and pneumatic tools Additional or Special Requirements: + Must possess a valid State of Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License without restriction as to the operation of vehicles with air brakes PLEASE NOTE: As of February 5, 2025, the Civil Service Commission hastemporarilywaived the requirement to possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon hire.
