ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Demonstrates functional knowledge of third party payors.
· Evaluates patient and family understanding of treatment plan and/or instructions.
· Acts to facilitate interdisciplinary communication to promote continuity of care/services.
· Assists with the assessment by collection of basic data for assigned patients in the clinic or on the phone. Documents basic data and care/instructions given.
· Reports results and pertinent information to patients and healthcare team members.
· Assists with a variety of minor procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned.
· Participates in staff development activities and orientation as requested.
· Maintains appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures and medications administered.
· Educates residents in clinic processes at all levels of training.
· Educates medical students on clinic processes during their family medicine rotation.
· Responsible for following instrument and equipment maintenance protocols.
· Maintains confidentiality at all times.
· Assists with maintaining inventory of supplies and stocking various areas (i.e. exam rooms).
· Utilizes professional and tactful communication skills to enhance clinic image.
· Performs routine laboratory testing and documents them accurately in-patient record.
· Performs assigned technical and non-technical department functions.
· Complies with regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, Department of Health, CLIA) in operation of x-ray and lab.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
· Performs miscellaneous office duties; i.e., filing and/or retrieving medical records.
· Work includes cross coverage in all clinic areas as team needs.
· Operates various office machines; i.e., fax, copier, computer.
· Performs chart audits.
· Participates in Performance Improvement activities as requested.
· Assists with monitoring sample drugs, refrigerators, and other JCAHO required documentation as schedule dictates.
· Assists and/or directs patients to various departments.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Must be certified as a Medical Assistant in the State of Iowa
· A current license to practice radiology in the State of Iowa preferred.
· CPR Certified
· Clinic/physician office experience preferred.
· Knowledge of radiographic theory and techniques, specimen collection, medical lab techniques, principles and instruments.
