Web Development Intern

Job Description

SUMMARY: Stride is seeking a Summer Web Development Intern to work with others to help deliver leading edge software solutions that drive the K-12 education industry. The Stride engineering team will support and mentor you, but you will be expected to work independently and contribute original ideas to accomplish team goals.  We use Agile/Scrum as both a methodology and a mindset.  Prior Agile experience is beneficial but not mandatory.

•Collaborate with teammates as well as other parts of the organization to complete assigned tasks;Design, develop, test, and document software to accomplish assigned goals;Participate in team stand-ups and ceremonies;Prepare documentation as needed to communicate and advocate ideas and report findings;Deliver final presentation to team and possibly other interested parties at the end of the internship; Demonstrates an understanding of business, needs and business goals;Create and prepare various content, presentations and materials as neededExecute tasks by utilizing various technologies and platforms specific to the business;Provides additional support to the team as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:   

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program in computer science, web development, or a related field.Experience programming in PHP/WordPressStrong self-motivation and ability to work independently Excellent communication and collaboration skillsDetail-oriented with good organizational skillsExcited about creating well-designed products for educationPassion for learning new skills and technologiesDemonstrated record of turning ideas into working software Ability to decompose complex problems and solve them iteratively Willingness and ability to listen effectively, respect others’ perspectives and contributions, and offer and accept constructive feedbackProficient in Office 365 and willingness to learn online tools & utilities (e.g. Jira, SharePoint, Confluence, etc.) Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.)Web proficiency, including basic understanding of HTTP request/response cycleAbility to clear required background check 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

Experience in both front and back-end development for WordPressExperience with front-end web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAXExperience with server-side programming languages specifically PHP, and interfacing with multiple backend APIs and MicroservicesWell versed with data caching and MySQL as it relates to WordPressUnderstanding of web design principles and user experience best practicesExperience with website analytics and monitoring toolsFamiliarity with CSS preprocessors such as SASS and LESSKnowledge of front-end development tools such as Webpack, Parcel, Babel, Gulp, and GruntUnderstanding of responsive web design, accessibility, and SEO best practicesExperience with Git version control system
